Eh, I haven't seen one game that has made me want to jump up an buy any next-gen console right away (I mean games available now, even MK8). That's not to say that the games suck, just that I'm picky about what I play, and nobody's bringing what I like, except for the 3DS.
Disgaea on the PS4 would be great (or better yet, something new with the same sense of humor) but honestly, I'm burnt out on the franchise. I mean, you can easily spend 100+ hours on 1-4 each, but by then I don't think I could take yet another one.
Why not just buy the Wii U + MK8 right now, assuming you can afford it? Is there really any reason not to that isn't a "ehh, whatever" excuse? ALSO WHY IS PIKMIN 3 NOT IN YOUR GODDAMN LIST
Why buy something now that's only going to get used infrequently? Yes, I do want to play MK8, but that's certainly not the only thing I'd like to be playing for a year+. I can see myself dedicating a good month or two before going back to other things. Seems like a waste of my time to go to the store (or online) if I'm not going to get at least three or more titles when purchasing the console itself.
I've already explained why I'm not so hot on the Wii U's offerings, but I guess I'll repeat myself. I'm sick of NSMB, having played it on DS, Wii, and 3DS; I'm just not up for another round. I am not a big Donkey Kong fan (only own Donkey Kong Land 2 for the GB, but have played most of the SNES titles), so Tropical Freeze is meh at best. I only ever touched the first Pikmin for the GC, and I'm not too fond of the series, it just doesn't click with my tastes.
As for my 2 cents, none of the other consoles have grabbed me. The only Xbox One and PS4 game that's interested me so far is the unfortunately named, Rise of the Tomb Raider. And that's coming on PC, and it's better there anyway. That can be said about any interesting game coming out for the main consoles, pretty much. Even Metal Gear Solid is coming out on PC! I just don't have any reason to invest in the Xbox One or the PS4.
The Wii U, on the other hand, has several games that have me interested. This E3 finally pushed me over the edge. Admittedly most of the interesting games aren't out yet, but that's why I'm not rushing off to buy one
. But this E3 convinced me, one day soon, I'm going to get a Wii U. Simple as that.
I've had the WiiU since December 2012, and it pretty much collected dust until Pikmin 3 came along. Then it collected some more dust. Now that MK8 is released (and I got the free game) it isn't collecting dust at all^^

That's exactly why I don't get why people would waste money on those consoles. Even the price difference isn't much: while a high-end gaming PC would indeed be more expensive than any console, you don't need that to play games with decent settings. So console exclusives should logically be the sole selling point (except for handhelds, obviously). Yet while 99% of PS3/4 and Xbox/Xbone games were released on PC, it didn't seem to affect the consoles' sales much, if at all.
The average person doesn't think they have the time to bother with the extra bother of a PC, and also they think they need to spend £2000+ to get similar graphics to a console and/or are a child, and want something as close as possible to a toy. Hence they buy consoles. People who buy PCs use them as their primary machines, then will only buy consoles if they're desperate for the exclusives. Most people don't have an Xbox and PlayStation, but just one of the two, and so PC users tend not to go buying everything either.
Having something that can neatly be hooked up to a TV is a major factor for most as well. Sure you can make SFF and HTPCs that fit right at home with your setup (mine is smaller than a DVR), but there is some amount of work getting it to work solely with a joystick.
Shonumi, how's your Gameboy Color emulator going?
I'm currently taking a break from development (actually playing Pokemon Gold :p). What's the point of working on something if you don't get the chance to enjoy it?
Current development highlights:
* HD graphics for DMG games is mostly complete. HD graphics for GBC games will take some special techniques, but should come later this year.
* The APU needs to be reworked to at least attempt to simulate cycle-accuracy. Necessary for 8-bit voice samples (Army Men games) and LoZ Oracle games (overworld slows down since my emulated APU is actually slower than a real APU
* Working on applying the 16 pseudo-color palettes that the GBC applies to DMG games (this is easy to do, low-hanging fruit).
* Initial planning for netplay has started. Serial transfer doesn't seem too complicated to emulate, just need to get to grips with SDL_net.
* Beat the E4, going to Kanto now Testing Pokemon Gold. Thoroughly.
