Just start acting like one.
Duke Nukem Wrote:Back in the old days before Internet and cellphones we actually talked and socialized with each other in a genuine way which is rarer and rarer these days. Everywhere I go today people walk with their phones in their hands like zombies, they drive with their phones and I wouldn't be surprised if they f**** with their phones.
Some people seem to think that online and cellular interactions are somehow less genuine than other forms of communication (even though online you're more likely to express yourself :/ ). People seem to forget that we've been doing long-distance communication for years (letters, telegrams, landlines). Some people used to spend hours reading letters, waiting for letters, and writing letters, rather than talking to people in person. We're so-called social animals; phones, texting, and the internet are just extensions of our nature. As long as you're not doing it while driving (not that pisses me off, and it's dangerous!) I think we'll be alright with cellphones.
A lot of other things too have historically been seen as "bad" since people could have become "zombies" : books (bookworms), TV, radio, video games. Society hasn't been destroyed yet, at least not since I last checked *looks out through window*
Duke Nukem Wrote:I think there was a better cohesion between people back then, people in general was probably much more happier too. Today's society is more depressing then anything else that I can think of with all the shit that is going on.
Sure there have been bad times in the past, but I'd give every penny I have to travel back.
Rose-tinted glasses? Depending on who you're hearing about "the past" from, you're going to get wildly different views. In reality, I believe that while we're always improving, slowly, every era has had its crappy aspects and its highlights. The highlights often get romanticized (like America's awful obsession with the 50s) but that doesn't mean times weren't tough for a number of people or that everything was fine politically, economically, or socially.
Though I am wondering how much I could pay you to time travel. I'd have you buy a ton of old games for me, leave them in mint condition, and then sell them in 2020. You'd get a cut of the profits too :p
Duke Nukem Wrote:The company I work with today, boy by the stories I've heard it was a blast. They had so much fun and they were tight as a team. Today it's only money money money, time time time.
It's always been about time and money, ever since the start of the Industrial Revolution. Maybe your company was playing catch-up? :p

Good old days for some, bad old days for others.
I'll let you be though. I mean, there's nothing inherently wrong in wanting to bring back positive aspects of the past if you feel the present has lost them.
Anyway... It's here! My Odroid U2 came a whole 3 days earlier (was supposed to be here Monday, and FedEx don't normally on the weekend). So now I have the entire weekend to get this baby up and running. My much sought after emu-console project begins
I'll post pics and start a new thread later.
