Since this is a thread about 'random' and 'unexpected' stuff, how about something *totally random* :
---------------------------------------------------------
An 'interview' with kinkinkijkin \o/ (PART 1)
----------------------------------------------------------
White Marshmallow: That's a very interesting (and unique) username. Sounds like a Dutch pun. Is it really a Dutch word or phrase?
kinkinkijkin: No, it's a keymash. It also didn't have a pronunciation until some random in Twelve Sky* (yeah I had it long enough that I got the pronounciation from some guy in twelve sky) called me "kin kin". I had ditched it for another name that was more pronounceable until that guy said that.
* Twelve Sky was an old "oriental" RPG popular among weaboos and users of Aeria Games that was shut down in 2010.
White Marshmallow: What do you prefer:
- a gated supersaw
- a gliding square wave
or ...
- none of the above
?
kinkinkijkin: Neither of those, supersaws take up too many frequencies and squares cut through too hard, any other width of rectangle is better in my opinion.
White Marshmallow: MOD or MIDI FTW?
kinkinkijkin: MOD is a dead standard which only exists in the demoscene anymore because it's the demoscene. MIDI is far superior to it in every way, even though it is older.
White Marshmallow: Why are you still using MODtrackers when you can use an advanced DAW ? There are many free 'jackdaws' out there, especially on Linux.
kinkinkijkin: Renoise *is* an advanced DAW.
White Marshmallow: Isn't it too time-consuming to create 'choons' using a MODtracker?
kinkinkijkin: Trackers are faster workflow for people who know how to use them than pianoroll. ESPECIALLY if you have a good keyboard and are a fast typer.
White Marshmallow: Do you have any demo-style / chip tunes to share?
kinkinkijkin:
This is the only demo/chip track I've made in a while, and it's not a very restricting standard that I used. 16k DOS tracker files are far more flexible than, say, SPC (super nintendo sound file) or amigamod (4-channel MOD file) or NSF+ (Famicom with any expansions).
White Marshmallow: Are any of your MODs featured @
www.modarchive.org ?
kinkinkijkin: No. I plan to put anything I make this Winter Chip on there but I've been forgetting to.
