Dolphin doesn't agree with that statement.
And, HL2 seems pretty native to me, considering that it was running 60+ FPS earlier at maximum quality while using Mesa 9.1.2 (comes with Xubuntu 13.10, which is what my install disc is for), while I got ~40 FPS in Windows with DX9 with reduced quality settings.
No, I saw no lack of AF. Plus, AF wouldn't really affect my card very much in a game like HL2, band is too wide to fit on HL2's little wrist. While I doubt that I could have been expempted from such a bug, I cannot deny that AF was not missing.
AFAIK everything using the OrangeBox Engine uses the wrapper, L4D2 and Portal 2 are native with OpenGL renderer, HL2 they didn't even say anything (I assume it's wrapped) and Dota 2 is using a better version of the wrapper that is slower because it's accurate.
I could understand something like TF2 (70FPS with my windows super-eyecandy config on a crappy server not supporting anything that lets the client run faster, 20FPS with everything on the fastest mode for my computer in Ubuntu on the fastest servers around) being wrapper, but HL2 runs too well to be wrapped. I feel like, if HL2 were wrapped, it would at least experience microstutter.
Gah, I removed my Linux Mint installation until Linux Mint 17 is officially released/Cinnamon is finally available for Ubuntu 14.10.
The Linux port of Tf2 sucks though, that's true. Compared to L4D2 and Portal 2.

EDIT: Okay, something's DEFINITELY wrong, I tried playing Half-Life 2 (only game I have installed thus far that doesn't require dolphin), and the menu rendered at <1FPS, plus, the game thread was having obvious issues, because there was massive audio stutters, and it took me ~1 minute to close the game after it loaded.
Is your kernel updated? You should have it updated to at least 3.14-3.15 if you're using the latest mesa for optimal results.
It's currently at 3.20 (or possibly something later than that), according to it's entries in grub.

3.15 is the latest and it hasn't been released as a stable release.
