This actually started when I was deleting games from Steam and I wasn't recovering any free space. Then I tried deleting old Windows files from the Windows 10 November Update, but still no dice. After deleting what should have been about 60 or GB, my used space has gone up by 10 GB.
This install was originally my Windows 7 install that upgraded to Windows 10. I just got a new SSD, so I was just going to clone my drive, but I guess I'll go nuclear.

clear recycle bin?
windirstat to see every file in your computer (good luck with temp files, windows directory, etc.)
what's expanding? user folder or something else?
unlikely to fix: chkdsk
I've cleared everything from recycle bin, checked for shadow volumes, checked for disk errors, run chkdsk and windirstat. But I still don't know the issue. :/
Windirstat shows 404 GB used, Windows Explorer says 414 GB used. That missing 10 GB. So I have no idea where it is.
I use Folder Size instead of WinDirStat (it was what came first in a Google search a couple of years ago) and that always shows things like system files etc. Unless you've got 10 GB of even-lower-level-than-system  NTFS transaction logs (this shouldn't be possible, but my brother's machine didn't want to upgrade to Windows 10 as there was a partition which had got flooded with these (it was 100 MB and 79 MB were transaction logs) at some point) which I'm not sure even show up as used space anywhere you'd think to look, I'd guess it's just not showing the hibernation and page files.
huh, I just ran into jimbo1qaz in youtube comments, on a video of a bearing spinning fast
