It's supposed to be funny (and obvious, although apparently not for everyone). The entire site is a parody of "real news".
Jesus I can't believe we're discussing this! You saw a title that said "Corporation Reaches Goal, Shuts Down" with a mission accomplished sign and you didn't realize that it was a joke!?!?
I still seem to be missing the 'joke' part in all this, why does a site like that even exist if its all parody, 'The Onion, America's finest news source' my ass

Jesus christ you still don't get it. They make funny articles that parody real life and get ad revenue, it's that simple!

Fine, i get that but could they atleast write it somewhere for people visiting for the 1st time like myself, i dont know something like, 'hello, guest, welcome to the onion, america's greatest news source, oh and btw all our stories are parody so dont go thinking them accurate and blurt it out in public and look like a complete idiot' kayxthnksxbye' or whatever...
1. It's supposed to be obvious. If you're not american (I don't think you are) then you probably won't get this reference but that would be like having the daily show or colbert report putting a disclaimer that they are a comedy at the beginning of each show.
2. Saying it's a parody on the site ruins the whole point of it being a parody. It's like somebody telling you a joke, you laugh, and then they say "that was supposed to be funny in case you were wondering" while you look at them with a confused expression on your face. If you can't figure out that the articles are fake/humorous in nature when they make it so god damn obvious then you need to have your head examined. Just look at the titles of the articles for crying out loud!
1. I'm not American, so probably therein lies our problem
2. The title dosent say much to me as thats the only article i've read there, so okay, i'll go have my head examined
