Just because people keep doing a ritual doesn't mean it works. Just look at homeopathic medicine for example.
I'm kind of surprised that you of all people would say this since your dedication to proper scientific analysis is normally quite respectable.
That's why I said "for her" and added the "^^" at the end
edit: Oh, and thanks for the compliment
Don't worry, Vader. In some corner of my mind I still believe I will live forever^^
That reminds me of this comic (the only proper way to immortality):
Well... we can't prove it won't work. However, the theory of time travel that I think is sensible doesn't allow the killing of your past self, as it would create a paradox. You'd almost kill yourself, then remember a dream in which you were your past self being killed by your future self, but in fact you didn't kill yourself, so would then hide for the rest of your life. Your past self would dismiss seeing his future self almost killing him as a weird dream, and would forget it until he time travelled to the past and almost killed himself.
When I wanted to learn Java, which was my first serious programming language, I bought Sam's Teach yourself Java in 24 hours. It's actually a nice book, it is divided in 24 chapters, which in theory should provide one hour of reading each.
Took me 4 months to get through the whole thing.
That's python. You can get to a point where you can figure it out on your own in a short amount of time.
