@Maylmilae; I love seeing awesome rigs like that! Very nice.
One of these years I'm going to step up from mid-range and move to higher-end stuff. Until recently, just haven't had the need for anything more with my current setup. It runs Dolphin great, and I can play the majority of my games in RPCS3 and Yuzu, so that covers emulation. Don't do much PC gaming beyond Halo at 1080p @ 60fps, but I've been looking to go 120 soon. I've dabbled with machine learning and local generative AI, so now I'm hungry for more VRAM and RAM. Owning an RTX 4090 would be a dream come true.
I think I just figured out what motherboard (and maybe the CPU) you have, and holy smokes that is a very nice upgrade. I'm gonna keep my mouth shut, don't wanna ruin the surprise of the full system. I hope it doesn't have any weird issues!
People with 4090s must have a way colder climate than me or access to air conditioning as I end up swelteringly hot with a 210W Vega 56. Since GPU prices started becoming a little more sensible, I've been intending to upgrade, but there's no way I'm going beyond 250W. I could have gone for a 4070 when that was released, but I've got ways to make AMD staff actually respond to me when I have any kind of issue thanks to their driver team thinking OpenMW's an important thing to have working well, whereas Nvidia don't seem to give the slightest shit, which I've found to actually be a pretty valuable resource to have. Unfortunately, AMD's current generation is still devoid of anything between 100W and 300W, so there's nothing enticing me to actually spend money.

Yep yep, VRAM is basically why one gets a 4090. That was the case for me! I have an 8k display and do a lot of super high resolution work, and I've gotten to see first hand what happens when applications get VRAM starved. It's very yikes. Though for this gen, there is also the weirdly good value proposition for the 4090. Like, in the 30 series and basically everything before, the Titan class was a terrible value. The price/performance ratio was abysmal. But for whatever reason, price for performance of the 4090 is kind of great. I don't know if that is how great the 4090's value is or how terrible the 4080 and 4070 Ti values are but, but still, very interesting.
Regardless, that much VRAM in a consumer card (with consumer drivers) is something that only the Nvidia 90 class does. It's carved quite a niche for itself, and a lot of people many enthusiasts want it. I wonder if Radeon will ever make a card that has enough VRAM to dip into that niche. 7950XTX perhaps?
Spoiler:
Though ridiculous hardware does create weird scenarios where I'll accidentally master a lighter workload at ridiculous scales. For reference, I accidentally made the discord header at over 20,000 pixels wide, and didn't even notice till I went to export it. When the bottlenecks are taken away, that can happen sometimes!

I'm looking forward to hearing your guess!

Guilty, likely on both counts. I grew up in a hot and humid environment, so even though I don't live there anymore, I can't imagine existing without an air con.

Honestly I've tried to use Markdown here a bazillion times. I did a quick search but the only plugin I could find was quite old. Maybe it still works?
