I think Death Stranding is using a newer version of the Decima engine, so that probably helps a fair amount for the port. I haven't had any major issues with HZD's frame-pacing ruining my gameplay so far. It's definitely there, but I generally don't notice it. I'm using the "Original" preset because I don't need a lot of bells and whistles. I only ever played the original at 720p@30 FPS, so 1080p@60 looks good to me.
Not like I could handle anything more than that. The HZD port seems pretty demanding from some of the reviews I've read. Seems like poor optimization. My temps are fine (67C on the GPU and 55C on the CPU, average). But any more of the fancy stuff puts me in a bind. Maybe one of these days I'll upgrade to something above mid-range GPU.
That 30FPS mode is totally broken though. Tried it out of curiosity. It's laughably unplayable. Eh, it's not a great port, but it feels like the PS4 version did for me, so I'll be dropping a bunch of hours into it. Hope those performance patches come soon.
Guerilla pointed toward a reddit list of all known issues with Horizon Zero Dawn PC in their latest update. Wow, I hadn't heard of many of these!
https://www.reddit.com/r/horizon/comment...ssues_for/
Also the fact that in their news post they are mentioning this is pretty great. Like, all of how Guerilla is handling this is great. They aren't trying to hide it or avoid it, they are acknowledging the situation and being open about the problems and their efforts to fix them. Good going Guerilla games!
Either they fix it or they don't. Ugh, this weekday was a crazy and stupid.
On the flip slide, I figured I would stop playing games for a while and focus of building a narrative. I got back from taking notes on a couple 'concept' ideas, it should be exiting for me to build.
My rule for all games, wait 6 months before playing it!
So this is what I've been up to while I was waiting for Horizon Zero Dawn! ....and then waiting for Horizon Zero Dawn patches.
Onto Ori and the Will of the Wisps!
The new Mario 3D All Stars is most likely a source code port, but does anyone think it could possibly be emulators under the hood?

I want to know what they mean by them only being available till March 2021.
Edit: I forgot that SM64 also doesn't have 16:9 support. Or why the original all stars was a major graphics improvement, where as 3D is not.
64 still being in 4/3 format makes me think it's probably emulation with slightly improved/changed textures. While Sunshine and Galaxy looks like ports, but we have to wait for the game release to confirm all that. That's a kinda lazy anniversary but remember what we got for 25th : a wii disk with a snes rom on it.
I also wonder if tthe lack of Galaxy 2 always intended, or a timing problem where they couldn't finish the game in time?

Why add SMG2 to the package now when they can sell it to you separately at a later date? Makes more money that way.
I'm just being cynical, of course, but still...
