I need advice for a good $500 Dolphin & FPS build.
(This price is set in stone... it will NOT change as this is a Christmas present.)
Here's the rules...
Intel Sandy Bridge CPU
(No Overclock)
Mobo needs to be ASUS or MSI..(Please?)
GPU is Nvidia.
(I need at least 3x scaling at 1440 x 900, 2nd highest resolution.)
This is from the ground up of course...
Any recommendations?

(I currently have $377 to dedicate to these parts.)

(As for why my current specs ain't here, well, frankly, they suck a lot...)
That budget is way to small for a new build. If the $500 is only for the cpu, mobo, and gpu only then you can get a decent setup.

*Sigh*

I suppose I'm SOL then...

I can't change the budget.
Any other helpful advice?

This is my current ideal setup...
and this is too weak?

BTW, already have W7 and a case.

Pointless, 3x is 1920x1584, use x2.5 (1600x1320) or x2 (1280x1056).

I actually wanted 1080p or 1080i, (as that is my max resolution, I use a LCD tv for a monitor.) but was afraid to ask, because...
I thought it would be too costly.
Or maybe not? Advice is always helpful.
(And I am aware that 1080p = 1920 x 1080, not born yesterday.)
Will play most games okay. Don't expect SMG, Zelda, Metroid, and some of the other to play great. You don't need that thermal paste because you aren't ocing and the heatsink comes with some applied. Also, it's not a great future proof setup for pc gaming also if you are into FPS.

That's fine....
I disagree about Zelda, however...

r7561 Windows 7 x64 Intel Core i3 530 @ 2.93GHz Intel HD Arrandale Full speed most of the time. 18 FPS in Hyrule Field. A little slowdown on large area.
(From the wiki.) (i3 is slower than one I want.) (As is the GPU, strangely enough.)

And I could put a non-k i5 in that socket in the future.
(as far as settings go I don't care about pc games, CRYSIS is amazing at all LOW to me, so fairly low standards on that end.)
I really want to play sonic games and fighting games.
SMG and Metroid I can frameskip on.

Will Pokemon Battle Revolution (And colosseum, by extension.) run well at 1080p?
Because those are my favorites.

What about PCSX2? Similar performace, as in: No MTGS or SOTC but everthing else okay?
Well playing Hyrule Field at 18FPS is cool with you then okay haha. Regarding PCSX2 just use hacks. I haven't tried too many games on PSSX2. Just expect that kind of build to barely get the job done.

Barely?

Wow, do our opinions differ!

What you see as "Barely", I see as "Tweak everything to work it's very best."

In short, this rig can play Crysis and Spore on High across the board, and that's all I need.
Emulation is only a bonus, really.Wink

(I don't play all that many games, this is a massive leap from the 2.0 ghz pentium 4 I've been sitting on for over 3 years.)
(Which I used to type this very message, hee.)

I'll get into overclocking when I have a job and stable income.
This will have to hold me over for roughly 5-7 years.
(Hey, I made due with a 1 ghz celeron 3 for that long, 1999-2007!)
I don't disagree the performance for current gen pc games the setup would be decent but just for emulation it's not the ideal setup. I'm pretty sure our opinions on performance widely differ. Well, good luck with the project.
