when using DX9, i personally prefer 1X res + 9xSSAA =))

Basically the setting internal resolution used to be called efb scale, which in my opinion was a much more appropriate name. But apparently the majority of users were too stupid to figure out what that meant so people kept telling them "it's the internal resolution". So the devs figured "hey, why don't we just change the name of the setting to internal resolution so we can avoid this confusion?", and so they did.

The actual internal resolution is:
Width: 640 * efb scale (internal resolution setting) * square root of SSAA samples
Height: 528 * efb scale (internal resolution setting) * square root of SSAA samples

A different shader is used for scaling the internal resolution to the fullscreen/windowed resolution depending on whether SSAA is set to None (1x), 4x, or 9x.

As a curiosity...

What will 4 gbs of ram and an i5-2400 be like in a metaphorical speed comparison to my current rig? (in my sig.)

Alternatively, an i3 2100?

Also, what will these processors be able to do that my Pentium 4 cannot? (Besides emulation, O/C.)

(And I checked, my mobo for this p4 is actually micro-atx, so hard drive speed, USB speed, and what-not are irrelevant, so H61 would actually be a sizable upgrade for me.)

Only get whats necessary. A Graphics Card, CPU, and RAM. The rest can be a cheap as possible. That's what I did and I got it all at that price and I can run dolphin perfectly. Wink

NEVER cheap out on PSU.

Also, whatcha got?
Edit: My bad, didn't see the tiny CPU-Z icon.

......I need that, most likely DDR 400MHz based on your motherboard.

Technically your pentium 4 can do anything sandy bridge can in terms of being able to run software (not totally true but mostly true). It's just a matter of running everything a lot faster.

Without knowing which pentium 4 chip you have I can't say for sure. Pentium 4 encompasses nearly every desktop CPU intel made between 2000-2004 and most from 2005.

Just so I have a convenient list someone.
OPs build:
24x DVD writer
GTX 550 Ti
Antec 550 watt PSU
Tuniq TX-2 thermal compound
Corsair 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333MHz
ASUS H61
Intel i5-2400

And you already have the HDD (hoping it's a decent SATA drive at least 7,200 rpm) and case. Is that correct?

I'll give you a long good explanation for this sometime late tomorrow, too tired right now.

The short answer is it depends on the application. Some applications might be only slightly faster (as low as a 50% improvement) while others show enormous difference (perhaps up to 16 times as fast in some situations). Also multicore gives you serious multitasking abilities that a single core cpu can't deliver (the ability to run multiple heavy apps at the same time without slowing down the system).

Actually, it's 200 mhz.

I have a Northwood Pentium4 2.0 ghz.

I actually only plan to get 1 stick of 4gb ram. (Bit better for the future.)

And you already have the HDD (hoping it's a decent SATA drive at least 7,200 rpm) and case. Is that correct?

6,800 rpm, actually.
Yes on the case!

Not sure about the hard drive speed, but i know you should get two sticks of 2GB and not 1 stick of 4GB since you'll want to have Dual Channel RAM.

Meh.

Can't vouch for much having gone from 256 mb to 512 mb to 1 gb of ram.
They ARE faster, but I probably wouldn't be able to tell a difference.
