Quote:How odd.. The total is $536 on my end.

You're probably looking at the total (which factors in shipping and handling charges) instead of the subtotal.

Quote:Also, turns out the RAM thing is a bust so...

What do you mean a bust? You mean you can't buy the ram on your own anymore?

Yeah.

Quote:Budget is $520. Still, pretty close.

So you raised it by $20?

No, that includes shipping.

Quote:Even so.. If the GT 440 GDDR5 can do 3x then I'd be okay with that.
But of course, I bet you'll disagree on how questionable an idea that is.

I'm not sure it will be able to do 3x, probably, but I can't be absolutely sure. PC games will run A LOT faster on a GTS 450 GDDR5 or a GTX 550 TI though. I really wouldn't make that sacrifice if I were you.

Ouch...
Then what do I do about the IDE ports, and my old IDE drives?
There is no doubt in my mind that the GT440 GDDR5 can do 3xIR.

Yes, but can it run Crysis? (And BF3 more importantly.)Tongue
It SHOULD be able too. However I have a habit of saying:

when I don't have enough data to prove my claims.

You have an IDE HDD that you're trying to reuse?

Quote:Yes, but can it run Crysis? (And BF3 more importantly.)

No. A GTS 450 is pretty much the minimum for BF3 if you want > 30 fps average at 720p on low settings. A GTS 450 is good enough to run crysis on high settings at that resolution at a decent framerate.

SEVERAL.

And that motherboard has IDE ports.
You don't have a CD/DVD drive/burner that you could reuse? Every dollar counts.

Yes, I do have a DVD burner, but the mobo only has ONE IDE port.(I also have a CD burner, doubtful of how useful it is.)
I need two.
You can have two or more devices hooked into the same IDE cable and port. It's not a good idea to mix devices but it can be done. Mixing a DVD drive and HDD on the same IDE cable doesn't always work and in the event that it does it slows down the HDD to the DVD drive speed (ata33) which is painfully slow.

At this point I would really look into purchasing an older used graphics card on ebay, for example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BFG-Tech-GeForce-8800GTS-G92-512MB-256-bit-GDDR3-PCI-Express-2-0-x16-SLI-CARD-/150692812970?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item2315fdd8aa#ht_2988wt_253

A deal like that would free up enough money to possibly even get a 2500K + z68 motherboard.

In this day and age you really should be using a sata HDD, but that's yet another upgrade that you can't afford.
Not sure I'd want to roll the dice on a used graphics card that you can never return, but that's just me. Looks like his choices are very limited if he plans on putting together something with that budget, though.

Don't know then.

I got a SATA drive and a converter to use it in my current pc.
Could I use that for one of the IDE drives?

Look, this is absolutely ridiculous...

1. I tried 2x on my Dad's GT 440 via PCSX2. (smaller LCD, but still.) Looks fine at a distance.
2.I'm really not an enthusiast. Hell, if it were up to me, I'd just have an i5 w/ hd 3000 or something like that.
Hyper fancy things don't really matter to me.
Good graphics are nice, but they are not a necessity.
Either way, the bottom line is:
Regardless of what I build, it will be leaps and bounds over this PC AND anything on the console market, and that's what matters to me.
Sorry if I sound selfish or pissed or something.
I fully respect your opinion and I genuinely appreciate your help.
I just don't know what's really right for me.
(Rant over.)
