I am having quite the FPS issues with the game. It just jumps between 50% and 100% gamespeed staying at each for 1-2min.

My specs:
Geforce GTX 560
8GB RAM
AMD FX 6100 sixcore processor 3,30ghz
Win7 64 bit

Dolphin Version: 3.5-367

The more players the worse it gets with FPS.

Attached please find my current specs (a wild mess of various videos I have watched to optimize it...)

The more players on-screen, the worse the speed gets. Yes, that's normal. Fixes for speed issues include: Getting a better processor or overclocking your current processor.

Also, try the latest development build from the official Dolphin site -> http://dolphin-emu.org/download/

My processor is seriously too weak for a Gamecube emulator?...

I will try that overclocking thing and getting the latest version.

Too weak for some games and some situations, yes. And before you tell me that you can play PC games fine, read this -> http://dolphin-emu.org/docs/faq/#why-do-...late-old-c

Got it, is there anything else I could do with my settings to improve the FPS?

Edit: accidentally replied in german ... still a bit hungover - sorry.

I'm having the same performance issues with Melee as well. If I were to start up a 4 player game, each person as the Ice Climbers, and select a demanding stage, like Mute City, the game would run about 30 FPS no matter what.

Part of the problem is that I've shut off the Dual Core emulation to allow for netplay (though the testing I've been doing has not been with netplay actually on yet). The computer I'm using wouldn't be practical to upgrade much farther, so I'd say that for the moment, it's not really possible to emulate the game at 60 FPS with these particular settings.

I found an Action Replay code for Melee 1.02 that will set the game in 30 FPS mode, menus and all. It's not a smooth 60 FPS but at least the game isn't running at half speed. (The code is 04432A2C 0005265C ). By applying this and manually frame limiting to 30, I can get dolphin to run the game at full speed even in the most demanding circumstances.

The problem is the sound emulation doesn't really react well to this. Everything tries to play back as if it should be running 60 FPS, skipping constantly. It does stay in sync though. I remember back in the 3.0 and earlier days, similar speedup hack codes wouldn't have this problem, at least when using HLE audio. Does anyone know of any additional hacks or tricks to get the game running full speed with working sound? Sound hacks on top of the 30 FPS speed hack or just plain performance tricks to get it running its fastest would be welcome.
There's actually a way to make the hack work with HLE and LLE audio without an FPS code. What you need to do is check out the ssbm-netplay branch.

You can import the timing change here used for the 30 fps code, merge into your own offline clone of master. This will break all games except Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, Smash Bros Melee and Smash Bros Brawl. Luckily, in that build, you can turn it off as well.

That way, you don't have to use a nasty AR code for netplay

Awesome! That looks like exactly what I wanted. One question though. Are there binaries anywhere or do I need to start learning how to set up the Dolphin build environment?

Edit: Hmm, I see what you mean now. So I'll need to setup git and a development environment, try to merge the current mainline and the 30FPS hack part of this... I don't know if this is all worth it. I was just looking to goof around with some friends, not start a big online tournament. We might only play once or twice.
Yeah, there hasn't been a recent build release of it, the previous one was before AX-HLE, but the emergence of AX-HLE has lowered requirements so much that the 30 fps hack hasn't been very prevelant. It's easy enough to build, but as someone who does a lot of work with Melee netplay, going off the main branch of dolphin can separate you from a majority of the players. If you're just playing with friends, or can handle 60 fps on two players, then it won't be an issue. The fact it is an option in that branch means that it should be compatible with normal players on 60 fps, at least. But on 30 fps, you'd need everyone to be using a modified build.
im having this very strange issue with melee using the dolphin emulator 3.5. The issue is the game runs smoothly throughout the intro but as soon as i hit the main menu there is a massive slowdown and the music becomes choppy as hell, then i head into training or whatever other mode and the gameplay is terrible, but when i play my other games they run perfectly fine any help thanks in advance Smile
@wtbrian - We can't do much for you without knowing your Dolphin settings. Click the Config button and take screenshots of the General and Audio tabs. Click the Graphics button and take screenshots of the General, Enhancements, and Hacks tabs. Post the screenshots as attachments or as links to a hosting site like imgur or minus.
