It's not a stupid question. The answer is no, though.
But you can use tricks to make programs render higher resolutions than what can fit on your screen, so that's one workaround.
Can someone tell me what video backend is being used for the screenshots?
Whatever backend they had it set to, I would assume... Different people use different backends.
Been working on adding normal maps to wind waker recently. http://i.imgur.com/YPmFsGI.png

Spoiler:
I used the awesome new feature that lets you get screenshots at the internal resolution instead of the window's resolution to get a couple of 30k shots of the observatory in Mario Galaxy, they're too large for any image hosting site (109 MB and 145 MB) so I'm linking to a mediafire I've uploaded them to and you can download the images if you want to view them. I'll probably keep taking more for a bit and adding them to the same folder. but again, if you have a data cap or are on mobile keep in mind that these are both very large.

EDIT: Uploading 2 more, one is 203 MB and the other is 213 MB.

Good lord, your GPU must have been murdering itself to render that. Looks amazing though, and Galaxy was an especially good choice.
haha yeah, after upping the resolution it was chugging along at around .5 FPS lol.

I'm uploading a screenshot of the Freezeflame Galaxy, this one is the biggest so far at 243 MB despite being the lowest resolution at around 24k, I remembered that dolphin had a free look feature so I used that to get a far off shot of the main ice area.

For anyone interested so far I've added these to the folder.

Observatory Close (29k, 144 MB)
Observatory Medium (29k, 109 MB)
Observatory Far (30k, 81 MB)
Good Egg Galaxy (24k, 129 MB)
Gusty Garden Galaxy (26k, 213 MB)
Ghostly Galaxy (30k, 158 MB)
Sea Slide Galaxy (30k, 192 MB)
Dusty Dune Galaxy (29k, 203 MB)
Freezeflame Galaxy (24k, 239 MB)
Wow, that's incredibly awesome.  It takes my computer quite a while to even load those pictures!
