Known issue, nothing you can do about it (happens with keyboard too, btw). You might wanna create a (proper) issue report about this on our google code project page though.

Hello!
I've tried establishing a LAN link as described in the wiki with openvpn-2.2.2 (I suppose) and two equally set up PC's, the only difference being one connected via cable, the other via WiFi.
We only played for about half an hour (2 players), but the connection broke three times, diminishing my hopes to give the game a go with 8 or 12 players simultaneously.

The question is: should it have worked reliably? Maybe there is a misconfiguration on our part or anything else that I missed?

Also, I tried to run the game on a Core i3 530 (integrated 733Mhz GPU, Win7-64) and it worked ALMOST fine (40-60fps-ish) following the tips from the performance guide, but I assume there'll be too many slowdowns when playing split-screen. Are there any specific tweaks regarding these types of CPU's?

Would an inconsistent frame rate be an issue for LAN-Multiplayer in general?

EDIT: Gave it another try with openVPN 2.3-alpha1 and it seemed to be stable. However, 2-player split screen was at around 30-40fps, while 4-player split screen barely reached 20fps. If there is a way to still improve performance a little bit, I'd like to know :).
Are there any slowdowns with the feature that lets 2 people be in the kart at the same time? (aka broadband mode)
BBA should work fine.
dafuq? The 2-player-in-one-kart isn't BBA-specifc, it's a two-player singlescreen mode in the "actual" game as well... o_o
I'm not even sure if you can use that in bba mode.
Ok, just though there might of been some slowdown because 1 extra sprite.
1. 3D games don't use sprites
2. 1 extra charecter model won't hurt performance that much. One extra player will though

Yes they do. Did you ever play Mario Kart 64? That game is almost using sprites exclusively for everything. MKDD makes less use of sprites, but it still does. (that doesn't mean the prior usage of "sprites" which you were replying to was correct)
...really? Do some 3d models act as sprites? Can you give an example?

Do you have to ask? :3 I just talked about this sort of thing in the 3DS emu thread in Delfino Plaza. The DS is a perfect example of a (relatively) modern system that treats 2D and 3D graphics as separate entities, at least the DS handles them separately before drawing either to the screen, iirc. New Super Mario Bros. mixes 3D models and sprites. I read somewhere (random documentation for the Xe emulator) that the N64 doesn't have dedicated 2D hardware, but its rasterizer can be used to draw things (as rectangles) on screen, in effect creating sprites. But I'm beginning to talk about things I really don't know all that well :p A dev could explain how sprites work with GC/Wii hardware much better than my guesses could.
