I had that same problem because I couldn't press the buttons fast enough so I changed it from the arrows to the 7, 8, 9, and 0 keys...it makes it easier to go faster and have it recognize it as you rotating the stick...when I went to GCPad, I changed up as 7, down as 9, left as 8, and right as 0...good luck

The background music crackles and barely is audio more like some form of robot music. Any one have a clue why?

If you want good sound (and if you can) use LLE. With HLE try to use XAudio2

I am stuck at the 2nd chapter, where the punies fight the ten jabbies. I win and after that, the puni destroys the hive and runs back to Mario. After that, it's just background water noise and the puni trying to walk behind me for a few seconds. After some time, it all stops and I cannot move my character. The emulator keeps running and it don't crash. It's like it don't understand the scripting.

Very powerful gaming rig (radeon HD 6850, I5 cpu, 16GB ram)
(bounding box calculation currently disabled because of crash reduction in chapter 2)

Please tell me if you get past the 10 jabbies hive, and if your punies are visible (all 11).

Just an update for those of you that are playing this great game. Use ver 3.0-427 dirty with my config mentioned above if you encounter similar problems with the jabbie hive. It solved my problems.

The game keeps crashing for me in Chapter 2 when I try to enter the door in the big tree after finding the secret entrance with Madame Flurrie.

I've tried the 3.0-427 build, and I've tried disabling bounding box calculation. I've tried changing multiple settings in favor of performance as well, with no luck. I've tried using the ingame save instead of the statesave as well. Nothing works. I'll be trying a bunch of different builds, but if someone who's had this problem knows a solution I'd love to hear it.

Edit: I guess it's worth noting that it's crashing once the screen fades to black during loading, and that the run speed starts dropping drastically.

For some reason, I freeze after this part of the cutscene..I don't know if it's because I used the HP hack or not...anyone know why this happens?
