IPs are one way. We do other "detective" work which basically amounts to looking at the user's behavior for patterns, such as breaking the same rules as a previously banned account or using the same language, or even them telling us it's an alt account. In some cases, we examine post histories for more evidence.

Generally, what we're aiming to stop are those people who get banned, get mad, then come back with a different account shortly after the ban (it's happened plenty of times before). Beforehand, we simply had de facto rules (basically nothing was formal, I just followed with SS did) which is something this thread was made to get rid of. Anyway, we're not looking through every newly registered user, just the problem people, the "ban dodgers". If something looks fishy, we poke it and dig deeper.

If we discover that someone has an alternate account, even if they are abiding by the other rules (like Duke Nukem aka Maverick Hunter X, both formerly known as Gabriel Belmont) we still would ban the alternate account. If someone forgets the password/email to their old account and they make a new one, and stick to that new one, that's fine. That's what we mean by an "active" account.

The following addition has been made:

Quote:Explicit Content: You may not post or display any content (images, text, videos) that is sexually explicit or erotic, i.e. content whose sole purpose is arousal. Questionable content involving nudity (art, memes, etc) must be contained within a spoiler tag and labeled as NSFW.

It may seem like common sense, but these forums are for Dolphin, emulation, and gaming. The Global Forum rules did not cover this issue previously.

Definitely a good rule to have on here.  Really, I suppose it was always a sort of general common sense rule, as you stated, even if it was unwritten.  But it seems evident to me that some people really like loopholes quite a lot if you know what I mean. :P

I know the list of rules seems to be growing recently (including stuff like selling items, of all things), but it's always better to have a clear set of rules than having some half-baked vague standards. Unwritten rules are not ideal, even if it is for "common-sense" stuff. Best to not make assumptions and be as detailed as possible Wink

The forums really don't provide a way to delete an account from the Admin CP (where I do all my work). I'd need access to the forums database to do it manually, or see if there's a compatible MyBB plugin floating around. Instead, what I do when people ask me to delete accounts:

* Delete their posts and threads
* Delete all info from their profile
* Change their username and password to something anonymous

In that way, if you're worried that someone might google you and try to find out what you've been doing on the Dolphin Forums, they won't see anything about you. The method above has virtually the same effect as deleting an account from the database, as it concerns user privacy.

What lead to this being added? I suspect I missed out on a train crash...

Some user (SandyCheeks) wanted to post pornography here. We shot him down (at least he asked first...) but we decided to codify that formally in our rules.

Quote:Can we have more than 1 post in a row of same user instead of using edit button?

We ask that users do not post like that. The edit button exists so that people do not have to create multiple posts in a row. I explained here why the forum does not notify you when people make edits.

Absolutely do not do that! The Random thread is not for notifications, nor any other thread!
