In the site feedback forum, in thread "Forum member list", I noticed that users were creating useless posts even after the thread was answered. I already got the answer to my questions but other users posted useless details.
What would you think about having No Posting After Thread Is Answered Unless It Add Something Better. Or maybe add this for clarity.

If people start posting totally irrelevant material that's not even in the slightest related to the topic, we consider that Off-Topic talk and is already covered by the rules.

As Admentus said, there isn't always a good way to determine if a thread has been "answered" and even then, the discussion doesn't need to end there. While the original question may have been satisfied, other may still have something worthwhile to say, or the discussion could evolve even after the original question has been answered.

We've updated our "Play Nice" rules in the Forum Etiquette section from this:

Quote:
  • No flaming/harassment of other members. We want to keep our forums civil and friendly. If you have an issue with a member, ask an administrator/moderator to help or resolve it yourself via PM.

to this:

Quote:
  • Be civil and polite when posting. Keep swearing, cursing, and profanities to a minimum.
  • No flaming/harassment of other members. We want to keep our forums friendly. If you have an issue with a member, ask an administrator/moderator to help or resolve it yourself via PM.
  • Do not threaten others in any way. Describing violent acts against anyone is absolutely unacceptable.

It's pretty simple. No threats, minimal swearing, and don't be rude. We've had a rash of incidents lately where these issues have come up, so it's best to have these rules defined in our forum policy.

The articles forums specifically states that it is only for official forum threads for articles on the Dolphin Blog. There is no reason for standard users to ever have access to that forum.

I mean, if anyone is interested in writing an article about Dolphin or helping out with content for the website, just let Forum Staff know, and we'll see what we can do.

But like MaJoR said, posting new threads in the dolphin-emu.org articles forum is reserved for specific members of Forum Staff.

There is no need to question these rules, you must just agree to them. Just don't break any rules and you be fine.

Dolphin.GC.Wii Wrote:I think you're talking about moving threads the same way as someone, who don't have posting permission in HD textures, etc., creates a HD texture thread in general discussion forum and these threads are moved to HD textures forum.

Actually, I'm talking about working with some of the Content Creators to actually contribute to the articles you see on the Dolphin Blog. In other words, if you actually want to be an author for an article like that. I don't see why not, as long as the topic is interesting and well-written, and the Content Creators approve of it.

Dolphin.GC.Wii Wrote:I can't understand why is having multiple accounts against forums rules. If someone breaks the rules, then he'll be warned. Using multiple accounts will not be against rules unless he breaks forums rules.

Multiple active accounts are unnecessary. You only need one. There's no reason for having two or more. If you made an account 3 year ago, for example, and forgot the password, it's okay to make a new account. We consider that old account inactive since you're not using it (and it may have been auto-deleted anyway). But having two active accounts that you can use at the same time makes no sense. One is enough for everyone.

If you post two or three identical posts in one thread at the same time, I think we will understand that it was a mistake. As far as I know, the new rule mostly is about making the same post in multiple threads or forums, not making the same post multiple times in one thread.

We just delete those extra posts ourselves if we come across them. I've done it before and it takes just a few seconds to fix it. The rule, as JosJuice said, is aimed at people who intentionally post the same or similar messages to different places (like two or three different forums here), or duplicate thread in the same forum. We can usually tell if someone is having browser or connection issues and double-posts by mistake. However, it's pretty obvious when someone posts the same thread in General Discussion, Support, and Delfino Plaza that they haven't read the rules or are breaking the rules.
