Hi kids (I'm an old guy),

My six year old son loves creating levels in nsmbw, we're doing it, but the game runs quite slowly. From what I've read, this means, buy a new box (this is my first post and I don't know if the specs I gave to register will show up but it is not the same box and I can assure you without giving any specs that we need a new one). As the title suggests our main purpose is to modify levels with reggie, dump them into an .iso with wiiscrubber and play them with dolphin. Also, I'd rather do this in linux if possible, I have reggie and dolphin running nicely on debian testing, but wiiscrubber (under wine) is giving me trouble, but I suppose that that's a different thread or forum. Anyway, back to the hardware issues at hand:

1) Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz
do I really need this to do what I want to do?

2) Can I get by with PNY VCGGT4301XPB GeForce GT 430 (Fermi) 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP or should I bump up to EVGA 01G-P3-1556-KR GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) FPB 1GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 (or other?)

3) G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
is this acceptale?

All suggestions are welcome, I'm not a newcomer to computers but I don't know much about video cards ( because I haven't needed to) and I'm a complete novice in the gaming and dolphin worlds so your consideration is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz is slow for dolphin
So either overclock to 3.2Ghz (at your own risk) or get that i5 + Z77 mobo
Nvidia GT 430 is a low-mid range card for desktop , it can handle 2-2.5x IR (720p) with dolphin .
Nvidia GTX 550Ti is a high end card for desktop , it can handle 4x IR (2560x2112 - higher than 1080p)

Nvidia GTX 550TI is a low-mid range card ? where did you hear that from ?
It can play most 2012 games with high detail (not ultra though) or your ideal GPU is just too high (AMD 7970 ?)
Thanks for the replies gentlemen, any thoughts on the memory? And I guess the jury is still out on the video card. The cheaper one is $44.00 the other is $125.00, is it worth it to go with the more expensive one? Remember that all we want to do is nsmbw.

Thanks
4GB (2x2) is good enough for Windows 64bit
Nvidia GT 430 isn't worth buying . Get AMD 6670 if you can't afford 550Ti
Thanks! O.K. We're going to do:

Intel Core i5-3570K Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz

EVGA 01G-P3-1556-KR GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Fermi) FPB 1GB 192-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Last but not least, suggestions for the motherboard. I know that this cpu is very popular around here and I'll do a search on this but you never know when a new product may surface that kicks the stuffing out of all that came before so let me know if any of you have strong feelings on this.

Thanks for your help, we really appreciate it!
BioStar Z77 :
_Normal , nothing special

Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 :
_You can't beat that price
_The mobo looks solid

Asus / Gigabyte / MSI Z77 :
_Expensive , very durable (base on the model)
_Asus warranty service is the best of all
Have you tried setting EFB to texture in graphics settings? This does bring some graphical glitches, but makes the game run faster.
