You'll notice that the sky is made up of two parts, the top part is a box, and the bottom part is half as tall but four times as wide and wraps around it. Where the box meets the rectangle that wraps also overlaps at every junction. So that has to be accounted for as well and requires even more trickery and editing. The same trick can be applied, but how to get it to line up perfectly requires some imagination.
If you end up struggling with this, I suppose I can take on this task once more since I already know everything that went into it. I would just need the textures and a save file of where they appear, for N64 or Dolphin it doesn't matter. I'm not sure if there is a difference between Dolphin and N64 emulators because someone ported my textures back to N64 names here, and mentioned that some of them had the wrong rotation. But I know for sure that all of them were fine in Dolphin.
That's very generous of you to offer! I think I can handle it- the only part that gives me pause is the 4x4 texture block that rotates across the top. I know where each side of it should be matching up to on the bottom rows, so I think I know what to do.... but I need to finalize the sky and make sure it's exactly how I want before I begin worrying about the seams.
While I'm at it, there are a few other things I've wondered about and you may have the answers, since OoT and MM seem to use the same approach with everything. Is there anything that can be done about the stars? The sharp, square pixels that make them up don't look very good, but they don't seem to be created by a texture. I assume the rom would have to be hacked to change it, and even then it might not be possible.
Also, some color textures have a grayscale counterpart that's otherwise very similar other than being diagonally offset by a pixel or two. Without the grayscale texture, nothing will show up for the color texture at all, just blackness; I've read a programming manual about N64 texture types, but still don't have a good grasp on what the purpose of these blended grayscale+color textures is or how to approach creating them. Any answers or advice for these?
Thanks again for the huge help. I knew the sky was going to be rough, but I didn't expect it to be so dramatically harder than everything else! The rest of the game should be a piece of cake in comparison.
