You really shouldn't be able to understand people who are that hopelessly lost or confused. Consider yourself lucky.
The only thing close I've seen in my life is where people come with preconceived assumptions on transgendered people (e.g. MTF in their eyes is just a homosexual male "pretending" to be a woman) so they sort of equate the two (transgender -> homosexual), obviously incorrectly and negatively on both counts.
Maybe i just spend too much time around other trans people. That does make sense, in a people are really awful, and i should stop expecting anything but the worst kind of way..
