Trying to install Arch Linux, and when I try to install the bootloader I find out efivards wont load, and isn't getting loaded at boot. I can't even activate it via modprobe... Trying to get this darn thing load via EFI, so far no dice after getting sent to rootfs when trying to boot the installation usb with EFI.... Rage is slowly growing.....

Ew, Debian...
Fwiw, I am not a fan of how they separate things into -dev and non -dev packages. I can see where they are going with that, but as someone who usually needs both it's a pain to have to get both for offline installations. Their meta packages are a nightmare for any offline installation. Heaven forbid that your device and apt-get aren't connected to the internet and you want to install some packages that were downloaded from another computer only to find out you're missing a litany of dependencies that need to be tracked down. 06-11-2014, 03:27 AM
Friendly to who? :p
For that matter, I'm not a huge fan of any package system that is overly reliant on an active Internet connection. This is due to my fiddling with systems (RPi, Odroid, Gigabyte Brix) that are placed out of reach (my loft) from Internet access (wireless or wired). Downloading stuff offsite for insure installation is a pretty big issue for me. So it's not just Debian I'm not fond of. 06-11-2014, 03:31 AM
Friendly for people coming from Windows/OSX. I'm not talking about Debian itself here, but rather about the distris that emerge from it.

Rage is slowly growing..... Nope, I got it shortly afterwards. Too bad my modem died and I couldn't finish the install until afterwards. THe problem was that I have never done an EFI install before, and I have only learned more from the experiance. Im sick of Debian distributions, especially Ubuntu and its different flavors like kubuntu. Plus, despite other people saying the driver support is good, Arch has handled all of my drivers, for my hardware specifically, can't speak for others, way better than Ubuntu has. Package management sucks (for me anyways, Im pretty sure its a subjective thing) in my opinion with all the PPAs and etc. Pacman and the AUR are pretty amazing. Maybe ill try some sort of other Debian distribution, but so far Arch has always been my go to so far. Arch has been mostly my main install when it comes to linux, and really it isn't that hard to use when you get some of the basic commands memorized, especially when it comes to Pacman. And to Shonumi, I understand your frustration with internet heavy package management. Fortunately, I usually have a stable internet connection. BTW: THe problem that I had was my mobo wasn't loading the LiveUSB automatically with EFI (and it doesn't even have a legacy mode option in the UEFI options) and I had to select another boot option to get it going. However, at that point, I switched to a USB to load the Live USB, and the bootloader couldn't find the archiso. Found out the USB drive was named improperly, worked just fine afterwards |
