Good to see. Correcting a bad argument no matter what side you fall on is a good thing.

I was debating whether to post this for awhile since it's semi-offtopic, but whatever:

Lies, you do have strong feelings. You've always had them, and they're in every post you make.

Yeah, I know. That's one of the reasons why I debated posting that, I knew you'd point that out if I did. But I figured I'd do it anyways since:
1. It was the first thing I thought of. I watched the simpsons and futurama so much as a kid that the first thing I usually think about when reading or watching anything very short is a simpsons/futurama scene. The simpsons has been on the air for so long that there really is a scene for just about everything at this point. 2. It still makes me laugh. Although context is needed to truly appreciate it. It's basically the exact opposite of what every politician does (or anyone for that matter) in a debate/discussion. Just imagine the president walking up to the podium after a major landmark event just occurred and saying "I have no strong feelings one way or the other."

I think what it'll eventually come down to is the majority of people will have a phone for all their gaming/productivity/surfing, and it'll just dock to a monitor (like a lot of the Droid line do, even though it sucks right now). Then you'll have the professionals who still require what a desktop can provide.
It'll be interesting to see when that line is crossed, but it's going to be just as grey as the line where people are starting to say that laptops are good as their only platform.
Back from the grave and working on textures.

As I've stated before:
-servers will always be desktops (or racks) -workstations will always be desktops -htpcs will always be desktops -enthusiast gaming systems will always be primarily desktops -hobbyists/enthusiasts/hardware modders will always choose desktops Laptops will never completely replace desktops just as smartphones will never completely replace laptops. They each have their own niche in the market. Everyone will continue to have laptops for writing word documents/powerpoint/excel/etc. and making content in general. Smartphones as a form factor are simply too small to do certain things as well as a laptop, just as laptops are too small to do certain things as well as a desktop. The real question is what is the form factor "good enough" for?

Exactly - laptops are meant to be portable, desktops - more powerful and expandable. It's like those 70-100 years old talks about radio killing press, TV killing radio etc. It never happened.
Some say "tablets made netbooks obsolete". For me typing 30+ pages of text on tablet is a very cruel form of torture. With netbook it's as easy as pie. 05-12-2012, 01:16 PM

Do you really think an upgradable and more powerful laptop is not just around the corner? You'd be silly to say that it's not. If the past 10 years has shown us anything, it's that portability is king. No one is interested in dragging an anchor around. You'll find out soon enough, there is just no need for giant contraptions when you can do the exact same thing in a much smaller package. It's like an old man who doesn't want to accept that the horse is out and that cars are in, it's quite silly actually.
Asus Laptop: K53TA

And one day you will understand that smaller isn't always better. And that mobility isn't the only thing people look for in a computer. The laptop form factor trades away some performance and productivity for some mobility. Smartphones go a step further and trade away a lot more performance and productivity for a lot more mobility. And there are lots of types of computers for which using a laptop for would be stupid (listed above). Likewise typing an essay on your smartphone would be pretty stupid, you can still do it, but it's not as practical as it would be on a larger system.
And then there are the economic factors to consider. Laptops aren't inherently superior to desktops in every way just because they're mobile, desktops still have lots of advantages and always will. I feel like I'm stuck in a loop here repeating myself.
