I'm getting upgrades for my PC. New specs:

GTX 560Ti
i5 3570k HD 4000
16GB DDR3
Gigabyte Z77X-D3H
If you have read around here a bit you'll know that it's as good as it gets.
Will need a little OC to run the heaviest games tho.
I'm dumbfounded about how far these chips has come. I remember being on these forums and people were having hellish times getting to 4.0GHz...how much do I need to OC the i5 3570k?

3570k does go easily to 4.2GHz, where it performs as well as last gen at 4.5GHz (2500k), which again is closer to 4.8-5.0Ghz first gen i5/i7.

How much OC is needed to comfortably play...say, SMG?

I do not own SMG myself, but as far as I've understood on these forums you want something like 4GHz to run this at 100% speed. It's known to be one of the most demanding titles, due to LLE audio
You should be able to get to 4.2GHz (enough for even demanding games such as SMG, SMG2, The Last Story etc) very easily, assuming you buy a decent aftermarket cooler.

Also, you won't be able to 'max out everything Wii has to offer' as no hardware in production can run a game at 5xIR with 9xSSAA, but no-one will need that kind of graphics quality. A 560 Ti should get you to 4x IR with 0-4x SSAA, or 3x IR with 4x (or maybe 9x with some games) SSAA, which is very decent.

My CM Hyper 212+ isn't going to suffice for 4.2?

Cm 212 should be good for 4.2Ghz, unless you have case with very bad airflow.
Quote:max out everything
With Nvidia GTX 560Ti ? No
Even the fastest GPU - Nvidia GTX 690 is still struggling with 4xIR , 9x SSAA , 16x AF
