This "stutter" issue does happen on real console (at least on Wii), and I wouldn't be surprised if even Nintendo is using a hack for this title. Project64 uses a cheat to bypass the subscreen delay that can not be disabled unless it's removed from the RDB. This has been an issue since the birth of N64 emulation. GlideN64 does something different to bypass the issue (clears the color buffer with all white), so this cheat is not enabled for this plugin. The only plugin that I know of that does everything correctly and has no hacks to fix it is angrylion's pixel accurate RDP plugin, unless it's doing the same thing as GlideN64.

I'm not really sure we're talking about the same stutter here, I know there's a delay from when pressing the button to when the menu actually appears, but for me the audio stutters badly for about a second and it's laggy, and I never saw that on the Wii or the N64 tbh. I'll try and record a video with it.
The audio stutter happens on a real Wii as well. And no it does not happen on a real N64.
Here's a short video of it on a real Wii using my ancient galaxy player. Audio is really low, quality is crap, but the stutter is definitely there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVrphGnXDhc 03-03-2017, 09:03 AM
I have a feeling that they borrowed code from popular PC N64 emulators of the day.

Some of them don't force EFB to RAM, which is necessary for the status screen (Link's picture), an maybe for the background image (IIRC). The version I'm using is Zelda: Collector's Edition (it also happens on the Master Quest disc as well), here's a screenshot of the issue: 03-23-2017, 06:32 AM
Hey guys! I'm having a lot of stuttering with this mod. I set the CPU to about 250 - 300 ish, and anistropic filtering to x16. Also, checking the "prefect custom textures" box makes it worse! What could be the issue? My CPU is an AMD FX-6300 and my GPU is an XFX GTR RX 480 8GB Black Edition. Thanks in advance guys!

The total size is about 10 GB to 11 GB of RAM, so you would need at least 16 GB of RAM in your system. You could remove textures from the texture pack to decrease the amount of RAM being required. The texture pack covers both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, so if you are only using one of these games you could remove the folders related to that specific game you don't use. Keep in mind that both games have shared textures. Prefetching textures is the primary way to solve stuttering, but requires a decent amount of RAM, not VRAM. CPU Clock Override tends to work quite well with the N64 Zelda games, especially for Majora's Mask on the Collector's Edition disc (most noticable in Clock Town), provided you have sufficient CPU power. Leaving the CPU Clock Override between 150% and 200% should do the trick. Any higher would be overkill. What is the primary issue here? Constant stuttering or that the game(s) can not keep up at at 20 FPS (17 for PAL)? Do you use any AR / Gecko codes such as increasing the draw distance, widescreen and 30 FPS? Does the issue occur to only one game or both Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask? |
