Looks excellent, toto. Like said, keep the metal version around so it can be placed in an optional pack. Either way, any progress on armors/weapons is greatly appreciated.

^Agreed.
If you decide to upload it, we'll definitely include the dark metal versions in the optional folder. I, for one, would definitely use them. Edit: Of course, the non-metal version looks excellent too. I don't know what you're doing to make these armors look good so quickly, but you're definitely on to something. Great work.
Haha well it's not that I don't like the metal version, it just looks too dark to me, and you have a version that already matches the original much better. Others might want to use it, which is why there is no problem including as an optional texture. Anything can be an optional texture, such as if I wanted to do a "Dixon up all night drinking" face.

OMG, I need up all night drinking Dixon in my next playthrough.
I made a few more charcoal monados with different light beams, including the requested green. This pack contains the same stuff as my last pack, but also features charcoal monados with pink, green, blue, and orange light beams. I also made some orange monado FX since we didn't have any. Like usual, you will need to navigate to the optional folder of the main texture pack and find your matching FX and drop them into your Monado folder in the SX4-E/P/J-01 folder and overwrite the default monado FX. The only FX in this pack are the orange ones since they don't exist in the main pack yet. Monado Recolor Pack v2 (PNG) Monado Recolor Pack v2 (DDS) I might do some screenshots when I have more time, but for now textures only. 06-18-2015, 12:16 PM
Little update before going to bed, I made some work on Sharla armor/weapon (at least the one I like for her), here is the result :

Very nice, Toto. Are you using some filters for these, or are you redrawing by hand?
It looks very good. 06-18-2015, 06:52 PM
(06-17-2015, 02:56 AM)toto621 Wrote: So I tried to fix the issues you spotted, I hope this is better like this : The orange stripes on her tights are too saturated. The buttons are wrong colour, for example the one in her waist were originaly grey, and the ones on her boots should be the same colour as the lines on the top of the boot, and the ones on her hand come out as completely black. Finally I feel like the laces on her skirt and her shoulders are missing detail (in the original there where lines connecting the two 'out' lines, no idea how to explain this). Also are those things that stick out of her left armband teeth or something? They were white in the original, now they are close to black. Same goes to the jewelry above her belly. Keep up the good work (06-18-2015, 01:49 PM)frozenwings Wrote: Very nice, Toto. Are you using some filters for these, or are you redrawing by hand?Saying redrawing would be an insult to real artists here. What I do is basically : - Upscale. - Clean a little (but not too much). - "Redraw" REALLY small/basic parts to accentuate washed details. (I'm a real disaster when I try to draw using a mouse). - Use differents filters, ajusting settings until the picture seems like clean painting stuff. I learn this thx to SweetFX/ReShade, how it work and how basic stuff can "hide" texture defects. - Try some other filters to enhance details then lighten the images until it's nearly match vanilla picture "tone". - Try to guess whitch part is cloth/metal/ect, isolate them. - Bump map the rest of the texture to enhance details a little more. - Apply specific texture to the cut parts to try to mimic the material I spoted. - Try it in-game, change if needed, re-try, re-change, ect until i'm satisfied. - Do the transparency texture if it exist to match what I've done with the corresponding texture. - Thx to your advice, check edges of each part and clean it to enhance the rendering in-game. - Last but not least, pray the mighty SpongeBob that you will like the result (most important part ^^). I actually cannot redraw from scratch because I really suck to much at it, some are talented at drawing, some don't (like me). With a pen and a paper I can reproduce things pretty well but I was never able to make my own creations, it always end up like sh*t. It definitly not the same level of beauty/techniques as what you done (look at Bighead's Dixon texture, awesome work !!) but I'm still happy to contribute if I can @psxlover: I will rework Melia armor, after trying sharla one I saw I can make things better with her. Will also try to fix sharla if I can, it's not done so I still need to work on it.

Your filtering/cleanup method definitely gets results, everything so far has looked really good. And that's saying something because I generally never accepted this type of work, so it definitely surpasses the norm by a great deal. And don't beat yourself up, you must keep in mind a lot of 3D art is just knowing the tools. While there is a significant amount of drawing involved, a lot of effects can be generated.
So I'll try my hand at teaching something basic. It's poorly made, and it doesn't serve as a "tutorial", more of a quick example of how to quickly create and manipulate something to look "3D", since you seem genuinely interested in this shit and want to do what you can. Like I've said before I could break down each screenshot into a whole bunch more, so try to follow along as best as you can. But keep in mind what you are doing now is perfectly fine, I like the results I see and you seem to do it quickly, much more quickly than an entire retexture. For example it took me and Echoes weeks just to finish a single set (although to be fair, we were in the learning stages). I just hope tossing something like this into the mix doesn't throw off your current balance. And the Dixon face was narcku's, I just gave him some baked out looking eyes. Edit: I forgot to say the improvements to the Sharla gun are almost unreal for claiming "no skills". Great job. So whatever you're doing is fine with me. 06-19-2015, 01:14 AM
@Toto
Even if you proclaim to suck at drawing, you seem to be a master of filtering. And the "redrawing small details" part looks good too. You process seems very solid though, and I can't argue with the results. Keep up the good work. @Bighead That's a pretty nice tutorial, bumpmaps are a great way to add detail to a lot of these textures. Perhaps we should think about adding this tutorial and some of the other things you've linked to the OP? |
