Plus every Windows version comes with some high/medium priority bugs that are corrected within the first year, that's always like that, so people have one more reason to wait.

Quote:Ain't nothing about 8 that is promising at all and thats the truth. Unless you build phones and tablets. We need to remember the customers who Microsoft cares about, not us desktop users who have been loyal for years, we will buy Windows because it is seen as a staple part of a computer by most of the world. They care about the people who don't use Windows yet, as they are the ones who will provide new money. Slightly off topic, has anyone here heard of raspberry pi. It is a £25 ARM based platform. At the minute it only has 800MHz, but in a couple of years it will most likely have reached 1GHz, and when that day comes you'll be able to have a fully functional desktop pc in your back pocket for less than the cost of an XBox game. 03-03-2012, 08:54 AM
Phones and tablets suck, that's why I still use my trustworthy Ericsson T39.

I saw this on Ars Technica a few weeks ago before the company launched it. The hacker within me wants this little thing sooo bad. Personally, I'd like to make it into a little portable emulator/console. I'd make my own case, add some touches to it, and then it'd fit right in with my the Wii and PS3 (though it'd be much smaller). Man, imagine hooking it up to the a TV and enjoying the classics in HD. It's got a GPU, so it could probably handle N64 and PS1 games (the Pandora did so, with lesser specs). Put in a USB joystick, and I'd be all set to go. I'm still waiting for the Model B to come out. Hopefully it will be reasonably available outside the UK. But yeah, about Windows 8, it's obviously a grab at the mobile market. A lot of analysts expect businesses to upgrade to Windows 7 (if they haven't already) and wait out until the next Windows (Win 9?). MS is aiming "consumer" rather than corporate. But most of us real "consumers" are those who use computers for more than just Facebook, so I think alot of us we'll ignore it too. That's the feeling I'm getting, at least. |
