It's not.
Why should we not remove the OpenMP option?

Why do you want to remove all options that increase performance for most Games?
Since LTTC removal, Dolphin runs slower on my system in every configuration. However, OpenMP Texture decoder massively slows down NSMB Wii (forgot if it was with EFB to Ram enabled or disabled and DX9 or 11 or both) but it provides a speedup in Zelda SS. 02-18-2013, 09:42 PM

If its harmful remove it. And remove openCL decoder, its useless.
Add CUDA texture decoder instead. Or do not do it.

Because we didn't take something multi-platform away to implement that.

Clang doesn't support OpenMP yet, so the checkbox is useless on OS X. (Actually, I even remember it causing issues for me when checked (!?), so keep it unchecked on OS X.)

Removing LTTC made dolphin slower for me and all those mobile Corei7 Sandybridge people. The speed difference (1FPS) is not very big but is definitely there and valid and can clearly be measured objectively and reliably. And I will not reduce my internal resolution, the minor speed increase is just not worth the huge loss in image quality as I prefer to max out CPU and GPU equally. Back to the topic, the NSMB Wii slowdown caused by enabling OpenMP Texture decoder is really dramatic and should be adressed by disabling OpenMP texture in the game.ini . And I agree that the Nvidia-only CUDA texture decoder should be added if it can improve speed for some peolpe. The decision to remove Open MP texture decoder or not should be solely based on benchmarks of users that are capable of utilizing the feature with a fast, multicore and HT-enabled CPU. If the feature does provide no utility terms of speed it should be removed. |
