Please help! I want to make sure I don't start over with all my games. Dolphin keeps asking me to update, and it won't let me. It always says fatal error. So I'm thinking of downloading the newest dolphin client, but I want to make sure I keep my saves and my Miis. Will I keep all my games, their saves, and my miis on my wii menu? thanks!
Wanting to update Dolphin Emulator.

Don’t worry, you will have all of your save files and Mii’s stored in “Dolphin Emulator” folder in User>Documents. As long as you don’t change/delete that folder, you won’t lose any of your saved data. So, yes you can download the latest version without any fear of losing save files and Mii’s.
However, keep in mind that savestates (which are different from save files) won’t work. 07-10-2021, 08:03 AM

Same thing is happening to me and even after downloading a new client (saves were fine don't worry) it still wouldn't let me update. I posted a thread the same as this one but no one is replying. I hope a developer can find this issue as its good to know this is not just my issue. 07-10-2021, 08:29 AM

If you manual download the current build and extract it into a clean folder you should be fine. Assuming you didn't create a portable.txt file in the same folder as the dolphin.exe, like jack said it will be in you documents folder under dolphin emulator. That will have all of you saves and settings. If you did have the portable.txt in the folder save\settings will be in the user folder of dolphin. If you have that folder and file copying those to the new dolphin installation will allow you to keep you save\miis. Savestate like jack said aren't usually compatible between builds. As for the update issue you could try running dolphin as administrator especially if you place this is the program files folder which windows block non administrators program from writing to for security reasons. There were some build that in the past broke the auto update and you had to manual update those maybe you ran in that issue. Though I think that was fix before that build so...
