Your temps won't be stellar, but they willbe livable. Get good thermal paste too. Woops, I assumed he had a mobo that could do that since he was talking about that kind of stuff.

im not worried about overclocking much. just wanted to know if it was worth it to get the 2500k over the 2400. im happy with either, so no worries. just wanted to know if 2500k could work with what wolf suggested earlier in the thread. or if i needed to buy a power supply or anything else.

I honestly don't think that you'll see much of a difference. But a new power supply isn't needed as the I5s are very efficient. Let me put it this way: 2400- Best Quad core for a non-overclocker, and less games will have audio issues. 2500k- A bit faster, but not really worth it if you aren't overclocking. I3 2100- Meh. Barely any improvement at all over the G860. Not worth the $30 increase. Pentium G860- Similar performance to the I3, which means that many games may have audio issues, but should still run fullspeed. Celeron G540- No. Just no. So either I5 2400 or G860 honestly. 08-30-2012, 08:41 AM
FX isn't bad as everyone makes it out to be, look at Ivy Bridge for example, it wasn't any faster than Sandy Bridge. Unless we count the Intel graphics.... I think Intel gets far too much credit than it's worth.

Ivy bridge is ~10% faster than Sandy bridge, even without the GPU.
AMD FX (Bulldozer) is ~50% slower than ivy bridge, and uses a hell of a lot more power. We'll assume that guy was trolling for now. If it turns out he wasn't, then he'll get in trouble, and should take this as a warning.

Quote:FX isn't bad as everyone makes it out to be It is. It really is. Quote:look at Ivy Bridge for example, it wasn't any faster than Sandy Bridge. Ivy bridges IPC is 9% higher than sandy bridge on average and up to 35% higher in certain circumstances. Bulldozers IPC is lower on average than the K10 architecture that it replaces. Unlike bulldozer ivy bridge is faster than its predecessor in ALL applications, both single threaded and multithreaded. Quote:Unless we count the Intel graphics.... What does that have to do with cpu performance? Quote:I think Intel gets far too much credit than it's worth. You should look at some benchmarks sometime. I don't think he's going to make the same mistake as the last guy. I could be wrong but I really don't see that happening.
