Quote:@NV To be fair about 80-90% of those mods are HD texture packs. I do notice that since installing them when you enter a large area it will stutter a bit for a few seconds (probably because of texture streaming), but it's not bad and some of these textures look REALLY good. I could probably eliminate this by disabling texture streaming in the .ini file but that might cause the game to use an absurd amount of memory, possibly even run out of memory. I don't want to risk it, the stuttering is barely noticeable and goes away quickly anyways. Make sure you install the large address aware patch before adding any HD texture packs or the game may crash. The 3D map, item icons, and time on loading screen (adds the computer time to the loading screen) mods are great additions and I'm carefully eyeing a few other mods (particularly UI mods) that are still in early development.

Quote:To be fair about 80-90% of those mods are HD texture packs.Haha yes, hence my quotations around the word. Quote:I do notice that since installing them when you enter a large area it will stutter a bit for a few seconds (probably because of texture streaming), but it's not bad and some of these textures look REALLY good.Is that setting on by default? Are whole areas retextured? Or do you see both low-res and hi-res textures in a given area? Quote:Make sure you install the large address aware patch before adding any HD texture packs or the game may crash.Ah yes... I forget about that. In my 40+hours of gameplay I only suffered a few crashes (blames the 32bit.exe) But it might be wise to apply the patch if Bethesda takes so long to release something. Quote:The 3D map, item icons, and time on loading screen (adds the computer time to the loading screen) mods are great additions and I'm carefully eyeing a few other mods (particularly UI mods) that are still in early development. The 3D map is pretty cool yes, but I'm avoiding the 3D map for immersion purposes for now. Yeah. I also saw some concept art of an UI that someone was designing.(Can't find it, will post it when I do) There was someone who did something similar (in style) but it was kinda irresponsive at times(according to users). 11-28-2011, 12:37 AM
Quote:Is that setting on by default? Yes, and I wouldn't advise turning it off until we know for sure how it will affect the game. Quote:Are whole areas retextured? Or do you see both low-res and hi-res textures in a given area? Well to be fair Bethesda actually did a decent job with most of the textures in this game, so having "both low-res and hi-res textures in a given area" isn't as noticeable as you might think. All of the texture packs I have tried so far have done a terrific job at maintaining the original art, they are essentially just sharper more detailed versions of the original. Nobody has retextured the whole game yet (for obvious reasons, that would take an absurd amount of time) so most texture packs target one specific thing. For example one of the texture packs I have is for shields, another texture pack is for food and ingredients, another one for clothing, and so on. Technically we do have a texture pack already that retextures an entire area, the whiterun texture pack which retextures 80-95% of whiterun. And the guy who made it will be working on other cities soon. Quote:Ah yes... I forget about that. In my 40+hours of gameplay I only suffered a few crashes (blames the 32bit.exe) They won't. Developers rarely release patches to officially support HD texture packs. All they care about is getting the vanilla game working right (not that that's a bad thing). Quote:Yeah. I also saw some concept art of an UI that someone was designing.(Can't find it, will post it when I do) Yeah I've seen a few UI mods but so far they are all either buggy or unfinished.

Quote:Developers rarely release patches to officially support HD texture packs. The mods are the reasons most of the people bought the game for the PC. And if the vanilla game itself crashes when it reaches its 32-bit ram limit, adding any kind of mod would make it unplayable. They should really look into releasing a 64bit executable. I'm really curious to see what they have done with patch 1.2, which should come sometime next week. 11-28-2011, 07:17 AM
Apparently someone is working on retexturing the entire game, although it will be awhile (it looks really good so far): http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=607

Next time post the highlights here instead of just a link.
Left the consoles in there so you can see everything they did in the past weeks. Quote: UPDATE 1.2 NOTES (all platforms unless specified) At last they clear up the Dragon Corpses spawning randomly when you enter new cells. I hope that my Dragon Corspes don't randomly dissappear anymore. I had a few cases when I wanted to loot the bones and stuff later 'cause I was encumbered. But when I came back, the corpse was gone. Mouse sensitivity issues... Does that mean they have fixed the FPS tieing to the x-y axis? I hope the remapping controls fix, fixes the Right and Left hand issues aswell, as well as entirely rebinding the keys. |
