Hi

I’ve just updated my computer for use with Dolphin. The specs are:
  • Core i5 4690K (no overclock)
    8Gb Ram
    AMD Radeon 7750 1Gb

I’m only getting around 36FPS on the start screen on Windwaker and it stutter during play from 30FPS to 15FPS (sound stuttering too). This is on the native resolution settings. Has anyone got any suggestions? Do I need to update my GPU?

PS Dolphin version 4.0 7662

Thanks

Use realtemp to check what speed your cpu is running at
Unless your cpu run at 1GHz , no way you could have low performance on a light-weight game like WW

I've just checked and there is no CPU throttling during gameplay.

Also, one point worth noting, I've only just upgraded from an old i3 and there is absolutely no performance increase.

Also, I have a set of high res texture maps installed. Am I GPU limited? I remember reading a thread saying there is a problem is AMD 7700 series GPUs and Dolphin.

Thanks

I have the same problem with wind waker when trying to play in 3x (1080p) internal render, runs ok at 2x (720p). My solution was to use v3.5. With it I can run in 3x render in both gl and dx and even turn on AA and still get consistent 60fps.

...You guys do know Wind Waker is a 30fps game, right? Don't EVER use 3.5 (or really anything older than a 5.0 RC).

Oops, I meant 30fps.
Why would I not want to use 3.5 when there is a dramatic speed increase with it, at least for me? I dont see the benefit in using a newer version when I have to turn the eye candy down to play wind waker with my setup. The only bug I have found using 3.5 and wind waker is on levels with heat/steam (dragon roost), I use AR code to turn that off. It is worth a shot anyway. Smile

I've just turned the frame rate cap to "auto" and its runs much better. However when I pan the camera I still get stuttering and the frame rate drops to 10fps for a second or so. The performance is exactly the same on the latest v5 Dolphin and makes no difference whether I play at native for 1080p.

Because they're like 3 years old and unbelievably inferior to the versions which are developed right now? Using 3.5 is basically screaming "no support" here.

Your GPU is fine. I have the same one. This particularly game runs better on OpenGL in it.
I don't use custom texture, though. If you are already using hi-res textures, don't enable IR higher than native.
Besides, some texture packs requires at least 16GB Ram for better performance and you only have half of that number.

For whatever reason, i noticed that closing some backgrounds programs may improve the framerate on some games. This is specially true for background apps that demands too much of your Hard Drive.

That sounds like a typical texture pack performance problem. Enable prefetching textures and see if you have enough RAM for Dolphin to load everything. (Preferably do that on a development build, because the memory limit is higher there than on 5.0.) Otherwise, you'll have to disable the texture pack if you want good performance.
