Does BRSTM and/or HCS (Melee) use the same algorithm as DSPAccelerator? Is the DSPAccelerator the DTK decoding algorithm or the algorithm described by vgmstream as customizable?

Pretty much all ADPCM is the same algorithm, just different co-efficients and block sizes.

jimbo1qaz, pardon my ignorance, but how would having the programs, codes, files, whatever you mentioned above, being customizable help? Would there be some kind of code to rewrite or read in order to make the whole thing work? I am no programmer, but I do want help my friend out. What tueidj said in the comment below, is that a good thing or a bad thing? I mean, is having ADPCM being the same algorithm a help or a hindrance to your efforts?

It's easier to write a decoder of a well-known format with a few unknowns than to reverse engineer a proprietary audio compression format. Still, no guarantees at all.
Rogue Squadron uses MusyX. What compression does it use? Is it documented? 01-29-2015, 08:04 PM
MusyX was the original name of the audio library developed by Factor 5 which was bought by Nintendo and became known as AX.

And again:
Quote:Protip: if it's GC/Wii, it's 4-bit ADPCM (with blocks of 14 samples/8 bytes). Almost no exception. You just need to find the coefficients and the initial yn1/yn2 + potentially the loop points and loop yn1/yn2. Is it that difficult to read? 01-31-2015, 03:47 PM

Still, no guarantees at all. All right, I see. So delroth has said something about a 4-bit ADPCM, coefficients, the initial yn1/yn2, the loop points and loop yn1/yn2, and something about no exceptions. I have no idea what this means, and I don’t know if you know any better than I do. Can you tell me what you do know about it? 01-31-2015, 03:56 PM
I do know that I have too many potential projects to work on, shit to waste time with online, and more important things to do in my "life".
If I actually work on it, I need to figure out how to decode ADPCM (shouldn't be too difficult), and find out the loop points. 01-31-2015, 04:56 PM

I’m sorry to bother you, then. In that case, I wish you a speedy procedure through your projects. I hope that find the time to work on getting the sounds. iteachvader and I will be forever in your debt once it is done. |
