Hey that's my sound card! It's very very very good. In fact... it's probably overkill. You could probably get a cheaper Xonar Essence with the same DSPs. Though you'd need to do lots of homework to make sure of course. The main benefit of the STX over some of the cheaper models is its awesome flexibility, such as its headphone drivers. But if you want the very best (outside of getting a top quality receiver and studio speakers) then the STX is the way to go.
As for the speakers and those headphones, I don't really know anything about them. A small comment however... why the PCIe X1 gigabit lan card? The motherboard will have that built in, are you planning on using it as a server or something? Wouldn't that be better served by a router? While I'm at it... a 430W power supply is a little weak, it should be fine, but if you ever wanted to SLi or anything power hungry it would not be enough. That optical mouse is terrible, get a Logitech G500. And no SSD?! Shame on you! soundcard is definitely overkill unless you're using it for audio production as well... though there are cards even more overkill out there. Such as (if you are fine with switching out the stock opamps) the Omega Claro Halo. Honestly it's not a huge waste for a regular consumer, just a bit of a waste.
not related to that, I realized that hardware/game reviews with performance tests are inherently inaccurate; by measuring the results, they changed the results. There is no way currently to accurately measure performance outside of the machine performing; measuring performance inside of the machine performing affects its performance variably. Even after many tests to get an average, that average is below what can actually be expected when not measuring the performance by an unknown amount, and you cannot know the amount unless you can measure it, and you cannot measure it without changing the outcome. The only accurate measure for hardware is a test that measures itself, but these are rarely indicative of actual performance, and are therefore not actually accurate. Therefore I now trust phoronix even less than before.

After playing Hearthstone for a while now blizzard sent me beta access codes for Heroes of the Storm for me and 4 friends of mine. First time i played a MOBA type of game, it is not bad actually for it's genre but the lack of a single player campaign and the slow pace of ingame progress kinda puts me off. It will be officially out next month and be like Hearthstone, free for playing if you don't have a problem grinding around for ingame money or you can pay actual money to buy characters and skins.

it will be used for audio production, so that's why i picked an expensive sound card. i'm not planning to use the system as a server, so i guess i'll throw out the network adapter. i don't really play games w/ the mouse, so having a shitty optical mouse won't be a big issue, and if i decide i don't like it i can always buy a new one. I didn't put in an SSD because they're expensive...although i guess i'm already throwing out my money so why not lol

I almost punched my monitor and threw my controller through a window the other day lol. Effing Xenoverse.
Get a load of this. I was doing fine on the kid trunks quest which is the next hardest next to Super Saiyan Bargain sale that I managed to complete. These quests are just as annoying, hard no matter how I leveled up. I still lose massive amounts of health, spam from AI's is just as effective and no matter what it still takes too long to deplete their health. Anyways I got to the part where it was SSJ Vegeta, SSJ Trunks and I think another. Well I lost over 50% of my health powerless to do anything just from excessive ki bullet spam, strike super spam and being punched, combo'd. For some reason devs did not think you should be allowed to counter this, that you should be rendered helpless due to stunlocking allowing the AI to buttfuck you into submission. I'm being slapped around and can't attack back, can't block, can't counter nor use health items or even boost away. So over 50% health depleted, KO'd and mission failed. God, there is so much wrong with this game to be considered a true Dragonball game. It does not follow the rules of a Dragonball game or even the series. In World Tournament quests you would think knocking your enemy out of the ring would equal a KO, nope. Can't collide Kamehameha's with an opponent and overwhelm them in a game of tug o' war. Can't deflect ki blasts back. Flying away is futile when the AI is at least 2x or 3x as fast as you giving nearly zero opportunity to charge ki or strike poses. Having stamina insta-depleted and attacks constantly interrupted due to ki blast spam, being hit and spammed by multiple enemies. The AI is already annoying, hard as it is without the element of super armor requiring to deplete stamina before they stagger, health can be chipped away. This is this wouldn't be such a bad game if they fixed this, adjusted and balanced everything out. Implement a proper leveling system for CaC than this tacked on half assed leveling system. Some quests are still insanely hard, never seem to become easier despite leveling for some asinine reason. Adopt mechanics from other popular Dragonball games. Nerf super armor a bit or remove it entirely, really no need with how annoying and spammy the AI is. That or reduce spam and fix the piss poor AI for allies. Currently some quests literally force you to play online to even stand a chance to complete just because the ally AI is so poor, can't hold their own and keep high priority enemies off you. 05-20-2015, 05:25 PM
Good luck to the people here trying to make it in the audio/music industry; tough gig that.
@kinkinkijkin Maybe I could pay you a commission sometime for something I'm working on?? I could hire you at some stage? /Related(sorta): One of the people that contributed to Dolphin just got some 6 figure arts fellowship as a pianist. Which seems totally cool. 05-21-2015, 01:22 AM

I mean, this is the one game that's going to force me to buy a Wii U after all this time (yup, still don't have one, not enough games on it). |
