Anyone who is willing to provide 1 gbps internet at a fair price with no strings attached is the good guy in my book.

Other than setting up remote desktop and changing my user account password to something annoyingly long can anyone think of a good way to kill (and potentially restart) specific programs on my Windows 7 desktop remotely? Sometimes when I'm using Limelight to stream games to my laptop, steam goes wrong, and I need to walk back to the desktop and close steam to get things working (as I can't send certain keys or key combinations through nVidia GameStream I can't kill it remotely when it dies).
The best solution I've thought of in terms of robustness and security is to write a program to have the desktop poll the remote file storage I get from uni about once every 5 minutes to see if there's a text file called 'CloseSteam.txt' and if so to close Steam and delete the file. That way I'm giving no access for anyone to do arbitrary things even if they get access, but I have to have this program running the whole time and have to actually write the program. Of course, I could just wait until nVidia fix it with a driver update (as the issue affects shield users, not just limelight users, although there are workarounds for shield users), but there's no saying how long that'll be and if the fix will be 100% effective and if the issue will ever come back. It might have been fixed with the update I installed today, or might never be fixed.

No posts here in over 4 days, must be a new record.
Can any 8.1 users recommend me a 3rd party app to bring the start menu back?
