I think NV was referring to the fact that his contributions (the once stickied threads of his) are now no longer, well, stickied. They were removed by the powers that be (not me, neobrain I think?) for several reasons. For a time though, they were heavily referenced by the regulars when giving hardware advice.

Don't forget SS who tried to stop me from putting it up in the first place (who's now gone thank god). Or Link_to_the_past and delroth who both closed their benchmarking threads when I began asking for data. Multiple people I won't name who PMed me promising to help with data collection on their own systems and then disappearing before they did. And all the people who complained about trivial things in every thread I made despite the obvious reduction in willmycomputerrunthis? threads. And so on.
By now hardware discussion has probably completed what I now refer to as the "internet forum idiocy cycle" and come full circle. Returning to its original state before I started obsessively correcting people for multiple hours a day. kinkinkijkin Wrote:Ironically, one of the only people I've seen being consistently bang-on there as of late is djbarry. Neat, I saw this one coming. I always thought it was cool to watch the new members grow like that. Regardless of how dumb they may be when they get here the people who develop into model forum members are always the obsessive ones with lots of free time. He fit the bill perfectly.

I remember how pleased I was when I'd learned enough to prove NaturalViolence wrong for the first time. It felt especially good because I'd sort-of got him and neobrain briefly confused, and neobrain had once given me a stern telling off when I was new and made a mistake in a support thread.

I haven't had any moments like that because me proving anyone else higher-up on the knowledge ladder here has been entirely after no longer being a complete and utter idiot.
Actually, I don't even think I've had any point where I've proved one of those guys wrong, just one or two times where I helped them be right.

Eh, Im just glad ive learned some stuff from here, emulation is an interesting topic. I dont really help out too much in the hardware thread since I really don't have the time to correct people all the time. Its kinda fun sorta just hanging out in the random thread.

I think it was just something like:
OP: I want to run Dolphin, and I also want to run Battlefield 3. What GPU do I get? AON3: An HD6950 or a GTX 560 would be good for Battlefield 3, and more than enough for Dolphin. NV: You know the 6950's equivalent to the 560 Ti, right? AON3: *Realises the Ti version is a different GPU* *Does some research to confirm this* *Finds out that BF3 runs better on nVidia hardware, so it's recommended GPU is still just the 560.* Not in BF3! *Posts link to sys reqs* *Feels unnecessarily proud*

The only thing I learned from NV was how to make a decent WoT response :/
Honestly though, when I first came to these forums, I was impressed by how much people like neobrain, NaturalViolence, skid, and others knew about their subjects of interest (emulation, computers, hardware). That's kinda what spurred me to get into programming emulators. I said "dammit, I want to be cool and knowledgeable too!" 08-29-2014, 03:06 AM
Anyone here play DmC (Devil May Cry) on PC. I'm referring to the new one where Capcom Bieberized Dante. Any idea how to fix boss music not playing when loading a save game? The boss music won't play on game load and will only start playing if I die and restart the battle.
@NaturalViolence, did you see the screens I posted and do they look okay? Admittedly my pc is near my air conditioner and I have the side panel of my case off with a box fan blowing air into the case. I shudder to imagine what my temps would jump to without air conditioning and no fan blowing air in the case to cool it off. It does look like I may need a new cooler and this is inadequate for keeping my OC'd pc chilled for whatever reason. I noticed worse temps with this than an old cooler but I was too lazy to switch back so I fruitlessly reapplied thermal compound and reseated the cooler hoping it would make a difference. Maybe the board itself causes the cpu to run a bit hotter? These Sabertooth X58 boards are quite poor quality and have caused nothing but issues for several system builders, I don't give it long before this one busts and Asus can't give me a comparable LGA1366 replacement that isn't the Sabertooth X58. I've had this cooler for about as long as I had this system and temps have alway been like that. |
