Really excellent

Founded in 1991, there was a computer company based in Canada called Patriot. They had a partnership with Mattel to create two computers, the Hot Wheels and Barbie branded computers: http://www.pcmuseum.ca/details.asp?id=38...e=Computer Unfortunately, they were plagued with production issues and poor quality control, which ultimately led to their bankruptcy in 2000 due to shelling out reimbursements and replacements.
While doing some summer cleaning, we found our old Hot Wheels computer. I went to turn it on........and nothing happened. I purchased a new motherboard, and finally installed it today. The result is a wonderful trip down memory lane, complete with a load of classic games from the 90's and early 2000's. And the login was broken so you can bypass it by pressing the escape key. As for what it has under the hood: an 8 GB HDD, 64 MB SDRAM, USB 1.0 (maybe 1.1, not really sure), and a 400 MHz Intel Celeron CPU. I wonder how well Dolphin will run on it............ 08-22-2014, 01:41 PM
@KHg8m3r - Pictures please :p
I wonder what kind of emulation you can run on that thing. I know I got away with running NES and Genesis games on a 200MHz Pentium with 24 MB of RAM and a whopping 3GB of storage. Anything else ran like trash as I recall. 08-23-2014, 03:02 AM
Argh, PC just crashed.
This has actually been annoying me since I first got my current machine, about 10 months ago. Basically, it BSODs at random times. Sometimes, for a little variety, simply freezes, like just now. Over the time I've had it, I have noticed three factors which can all stack together and which increase the chance of a crash: 1) uptime, 2) load, and 3) overclock. I've never actually overclocked my 4670k past 4GHz, because I haven't needed more and I can never be bothered to spend the time pushing it, but even that increases the frequency of crashes. To give a rough idea, at 0-10% load, running 24/7, with no overclock, I could expect a crash about every week or so. Maybe slightly more often. At 100% load - running prime95 for example - it's highly likely that I will crash within 24 hours. Overclocking does not impact this significantly, but is nonetheless a factor. There are a few interesting things, however. Firstly, giving my PC "breaks" significantly reduces the frequency of crashes, as if the likelihood of a BSOD increased with uptime and turning it off resets that. For example, putting my PC to sleep every night can result in crashes happening once or twice a month at most (at no load). Secondly, my temps are excellent. CoreTemp reports no higher than 52*C most of the time even on 100% load, and the recorded maximum after 6+ hours of p95 torture testing is usually around 54-55*C. And thirdly, p95 stress testing returns absolutely no errors. It's just windows that crashes. It's possible that when error happens, it's not a small blip that will make p95 report a problem and stop while everything else runs perfectly, but rather a fatal mistake, so that p95 does not have the opportunity to write it to the log file before the whole system collapses; but I've never heard of such a case. Anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem?

It won't run dolphin considering the cpu doesn't meet the ISA extension requirements (SSE2 or higher), it doesn't have enough ram, any graphics card it has probably won't even meet the requirements for the software renderer, and the OS is probably too old.
400 MHz puts that cpu firmly in the pentium II era as it's too low to be a pentium III based celeron and celeron started with pentium II. Sure enough wikipedia confirms it's a mendocino based celeron (250nm PII based with 128KB on die L2 and 33MHz 66 MT/s bus). Release date 1999. Which is consistent with the HDD and ram size. So this system would have been sold either 1999 or 2000. Probably running win 98. Xtreme2damax Wrote:Load temps are around 60C to the mid 60's Celsius which is why I'm not too concerned about load temps except when I try to run Prime95. Then those aren't actually your load temps. Those are your "when I'm running dolphin" temps, which does not put the system under full load. Prime95 will put the cpu under full load. Xtreme2damax Wrote:Yes at stock running Prime95 temps get up to the mid 70C up to 80C. I didn't want to take the chance of damaging something due to high temps and can't sit there monitoring everything constantly to ensure temps don't rise too high. That's a bit high for stock on an aftermarket cooler. That's about what you should be getting with the stock cooler. Something is likely wrong with your setup. Is the cooler seated properly and tight? What thermal paste/grease did you use? Very thin coat of paste over the whole surface after pressure is applied? Nothing blocking airflow in the case? Fan working properly on the HSF and facing the correct direction? Decent airflow inside the case? What are your ambient (room) temperatures like? Xtreme2damax Wrote:Core2Duo E7500 @ 2.94Ghz (OC'd to 3.66Ghz) and Core i7 950 @ 3.056Ghz. Used the same hsf for both cpu's, the fan control knobs broke off so the circuit is open and the fans running at 100% all the time and noisy as heck. Eventually once I have the spare cash I'm purchasing the Cooler Master V8 GTS as I need something that performs better. I have two coolers I can send you that I've been too lazy to sell. If you want them you only pay shipping, or at the very least we split it 50/50. One is a scythe samurai zz the other is a tuniq tower 120. The scythe is a quiet low profile cooler with moderate cooling performance. It's more for HTPC setups. The tuniq tower 120 is a beast. Back in the day it was revolutionary and nothing could touch its performance. Back when I bought it was to then what the noctua NH-D14 is to now. But it still performs pretty close to the top of the line HSFs of this generation. Problem is since it's an older cooler and the manufacturer decided to create new models instead of new brackets for this model it doesn't support anything past LGA775. Neither one would be ideal for you but if you want one, or both, let me know. Xtreme2damax Wrote:I had this hsf a while and the underside that makes contact with the cpu has a scratch so I don't think it's cooling as efficiently as it could. Could be. Do you have any pics of it? teh_rediculously_long_name_for_an_internet_forum Wrote:Anyone have any ideas as to what could be the problem? ^ I'll think about the coolers, got any pics you can im me?
Got the new psu and everything seems to be working fine now. Here are the idle temps for my i7 which seem okay.. I'll get a pic of the load temps with Prime95. I tried to re-apply thermal paste multiple times with barely any difference. The only thing I could blame is the heatsink/fan not being adequate and ambient temps being too high to cool better. This Corsair 750CM seems to be better quality than the HX850 so maybe I won't have any trouble. 08-23-2014, 04:43 AM
Please answer my questions. As far as pictures go you can easily google either of those models to bring up hundreds/thousands.
