I know we always assume the worst, but that doesn't mean something couldn't have happened to galop1n (incarcerated? coma? killed?). Oh wait, no, I guess those are actually worse than a (rather easily resolvable) GPL violation... Never mind

Well I know anything could have happened. But before disappearing he was requested to share the modified source with his changes and danced around it saying he was still working on it or other excuses. Then when neobrain finally laid the "law" down and closed the thread removing the links he disappeared off the radar completely.
That why I was wondering if anyone had contact with him outside the forum or knew if he was active elsewhere that way we would know if he really bailed or not. That is what makes it look bad for him, his avoidance/refusal to share his changes with developers when asked earlier on then disappearing completely after the thread was closed. I guess if he logged in around or after the day the thread was closed that would suggest he is refusing to share the source. Just checked and he last logged in right after neobrain closed the thread so guess what that means.. Edit: To resolve it would be knowing wth he did and what he changed. Sure the developers could reverse engineer or decompile his builds or figure it out in their own but it would have been faster/easier if he shared his changes. So it could be a while before developers manage to figure it out and implement the improvements into Dolphin when such improvements could have been merged near instantly from the existing code ga1opin created. 07-28-2014, 12:30 PM
By easily resolved, I meant from his end. Push git commits and he's done. The commits don't even have to be stable or clean. As long as what changes he made are demonstrated, the GPL violation literally requires minimal effort to resolve.

Well yeah but he has to be willing and do what was requested. So far he's demonstrated refusal to share the changes with other developers which could have saved time, currently other developers have to start from scratch to resolve the issues fixed by his changes.
Seeing as he logged in right after neobrain closed the thread his refusal is now more apparent than it was prior. Seeing as how he's definitely aware (and refusing) now there's no point bringing this up any more as a reminder, devs can and will address the issues eventually. 07-28-2014, 11:03 PM

You guys post a lot, dang. No way I'm going to read all the threads on 18 pages.

I've always dreamed of what playing this game with save states would be like. IMO its fun since you get to better experiment with your approach to different situations. Trying to beat the game with no Alerts and no kills (up until The Sorrow fight at least). So far I've only killed like 3 dogs, and I just got into the mountains before Groznyj Grad, I think I'm doing pretty well so far.Really good game indeed. I beat it via PCSX2 a year ago or so and I'm probably going to tackle a similar run (no alerts and kill) soon. And save states are fun because you waste less time doing the same things, resetting, loading, moving to whatever point and resuming your approach. 07-29-2014, 01:16 AM
@Garteal: How are you? Proud of Netherlands' 3rd place in the World Cup?

Haven't actively followed the WC (interest has dropped for the whole event tbh), but I've gotten a glance at a few moments from the last matches. It's typical Holland; start really good and end up screwing up in the finals.
Suffice to say, I have never had any expectations of them to get 2nd or even 1st, so 3rd is an achievement. 07-29-2014, 02:04 AM
MGS3 Update: 5 dogs killed, no enemy soldiers killed, no alerts. Back in Groznj Grad to plant the C3 explosives.
Man, now that PCSX2 is playable on Linux, I can waste 100+ hours replaying Star Ocean 3, another 60+ hours on Tales of Legendia (the game is not that great, but the music is the best), and an infinite amount of hours in Ace Combat 4 (it never gets old, not in my heart ) 07-29-2014, 02:32 AM
PCSX2 is also much more playable with a Core2Duo than it used to be. I can achieve full speed with most of the games I have now where I used to get half the performance I do now. That was back when I had a Core2Duo E8500, now I have a Core2Duo E7500 that I overclocked to 3.66Ghz.
Wish Dolphin got that fast with current games, specifically Mario and Zelda over time. A Core2Duo is still just as bad or worse than it was back then for Dolphin and Mario/Zelda. Although other games seem to run better than before so I guess some games just need that raw cpu no matter how much the emulator is improved or optimized. |
