The count was including posts in some forums that were then set as "do not add to post count". Recounting fixed that.

Shonumi Wrote:Last time I checked, paper and pens were dirt cheap. I can't really break the bank writing short stories. Depending on the type and quality of the pen they can get pretty expensive. Get yourself a good fountain pen. Your hands will thank me. And then there are mechanical keyboards (seriously why would you ever write anything by hand these days when typing is infinitely faster and allows you to do all kinds of things with the resulting digital information). And for the hardcore hipsters, typewriters. See you can make any hobby expensive. RachelB Wrote:I mean, i'm sure i can find something to do with maybe $3000-4000, for computer parts, a new chair, some $500 headphones, and other overpriced garbage i don't need. But after that...idk. You're a terrible capitalist. AnyOldName3 Wrote:I'm weird, aren't I? You're asking US? Look around you for a minute. Anti-Ultimate Wrote:I don't get America. You guys seriously don't want free health care? But it's not free. Even universal healthcare isn't "free". Don't get me wrong, I support ACA and think it's a step in the right direction. But these liberals who think the money is going to pop out of thin air are hurting our credibility. jimbo1qaz Wrote:Wonder why nobody has done anything similar for computer monitors and running at 60hz. Cost and complexity. I've already answered this one previously. jimbo1qaz Wrote:it would only need two levels (polarize and don't-polarize). How would you get unpolarized light to be visible to only one eye? Your suggestions make zero sense and if it were this easy the engineers working on it would have done it by now. Multi billion dollar corporations are throwing everything they can at making 3D tech cheaper and more widely availible. What makes you think you can do it better than them with your extremely limited understanding of the underlying physics? jimbo1qaz Wrote:Man what happened to that post where I suggested using two transparent TN panels oriented at right angles and triggering alternately every other frame, placed directly in front of the screen? Or would that cost more than a 3D display? jimbo1qaz Wrote:I meant transparent large-cell liquid crystal switchable polarizers, not entire displays built around them. That's it. I've hit my limit for stupidity this week. Please try again next week. You'll just have to sit down and google/think about this one for a few minutes to figure it out because I'm not explaining any more of this to you. garrlker Wrote:but everyone where I'm from is having a shit time with this. Are they actually using the website? teh_speleegn_polease Wrote:As long as there isn't a Windows 8 requirement, personally I'll be fine. Of course there will be. D3d 11.1 already requires it. Interesting to plot all post counts on a logarithmic X scale. How would I get the data?

That's not an answer. Think: why do 3D displays require the use of glasses? A polarizer doesn't magically direct light to your eyeballs. It's ironic, but if you actually knew 3D tech, there's a solution to this that doesn't even require polarizers and would get far better results for your wacky little idea. Let's see if you can figure it out. Intel Xeon w7-3465X OC | Asus Pro WS W790-E Sage SE | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 FE | 8x16GiB G-Skill Zeta R5 DDR5-6000 | Windows 11 23H2 | (details)

NaturalViolence Wrote:Get yourself a good fountain pen. Your hands will thank me. I've had several good fountain pens. Never once did I find any of them better than regular ball-point pens, much less mechanical pencils. Fancy? Yes. Better? Subjective, and I found it not to be the case. NaturalViolence Wrote:And then there are mechanical keyboards (seriously why would you ever write anything by hand these days when typing is infinitely faster and allows you to do all kinds of things with the resulting digital information). And for the hardcore hipsters, typewriters. I always write things on paper before typing them up. Ideas just come better when I'm going through the mechanical motions of putting words on paper. I don't get that when I type. Typing is for finalizing ideas and editing. It's not about being faster, it's about liking what I write in the end. And if I don't use typewriters (which I don't, even though I have one in the basement already)? This is still a dirt-cheap hobby (or profession). I don't even need my own computer; the library's within walking/biking distance from where I live. |
