Then you'll hit yourself for not remembering about it and saying that it's useless. Not later than yesterday I had to do some slightly complex statistics to provide some estimates at work. Looking at 90th percentile, building a predictive model, etc. If you end up in a job where you actually have to think, these are very useful skills that avoid things like getting out of stock because "oh, guess our estimates about how many of these items would sell were completely wrong, heh". And yes, sometimes there are tools that do this for you. But when at some point you get stuck because your tool is not powerful enough, knowing how the tool works well enough to do it on your own is a very valuable skill. 02-13-2014, 07:25 PM

Uh, differential equations are pretty important for physics... so I hope you have no future plans to work on apps that do any sort of real-world modelling like games, video/audio processors and anything related to timetables.

Just because those skills are applicable to your career choice doesn't mean they're applicable for everyone. I do think it's a bit odd that so many majors that involve little to no math require high level math courses. Especially when most of what they teach you in these math courses are functions that are built into every modern software/hardware calculator or can be googled with a complete understanding within 5 minutes. Yet we still have to waste months or years on it even if your major is say, psychology. That drives people crazy. And sometimes the reverse is also true. Recently I've been taking network administration courses and have been absolutely baffled at how many of my class mates cannot seem to do even basic binary arithmetic. An absolutely critical skill imo for this subject. And the professors are ridiculously lenient about it. That makes me just as mad. As a tutor at my school I often end up with students that are in majors not related to math, science, or engineering that are taking math courses that they really shouldn't be taking. They have a really tough time with it for obvious reasons. It hurts their GPA and some of them even end up dropping out or changing majors because of it. And all to learn skills that they will never use. That's nuts. Ask any of them anything from these courses 10 years later and they won't be able to answer. That's what people complaining about this really mean. For your career path on the other hand these courses would be completely reasonable.

I've been wondering if anyone is going to answer my questions in my last post.

Because they're too cheap to rewrite significant parts of the engine from scratch.
