@NaturalViolence
I just double checked, omar.a.benitez that is my account name. Weird that it says I'm not registered. My brother is playing on my account on Day Z as we speak. And Francis is hilarious because everyone loves to hear fat nerds rage. The voice he makes is hilarious. IDK something about fat people that make them 10x funnier. On a side note which games do you guys think are better with hd texture packs? Pick the top 3 that benefit the most from them. GC and Wii. 07-16-2013, 06:27 PM

I'm having trouble loading textures for Twilight Princess V_V
This guy has the only GC HD mod I can find https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-gc...xture-pack I extracted the textures to Dolphin x64/User/Load/Textures/GZ2E01 Doesn't work. I have custom textures enabled. He has a dropbox with his entire dolphin folder, and it works, his dolphin version is patched. His works, but when you use a save state, all the hd textures unload and turn back to sd. what do 07-16-2013, 10:06 PM

These look like they are new in the box. And they're Nintendo Entertainment Systems. The first one looks like it may be the only one that wasn't opened out of the box. The rest look like they opened the box but never used or plugged in the NES. I found the same for pretty much all other systems. So in 20 years these won't exist? I'm sure someone will keep them but the price would skyrocket. And if it has never been opened from the box I'm sure it would work then, right? (I'm not sure - crossing my fingers) PC Specs

@noah - fwiw, from a manufacturing perspective, the oldest NES/Famicom systems are now about 30 (Japan) and 28 (US) years old respectively. The newest systems are about 10 (Japan) and 18 (US) years old respectively. Production of the Famicom didn't stop until 2003 in Japan, interestingly enough. 1995 was the cutoff year for US NES production.
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/07/ti...-birthday/ - Good reading, even covers some technical info. I'm not particularly interested in NES emulation, but I know a thing or two about the system. It's good to see another tech site looking at the history and impact of the system, games, and the tech behind it all. Also, "new in the box" doesn't mean it'll work. I work in shipping, and things can get damaged even if the box looks okay. There are also external conditions to consider (heat, cold, moisture) that accumulate over time. A box is just cardboard; it's not the ultimate protection from the elements. Is it more likely to work for longer a longer period than, say, my NES sitting in my closet? Probably. But nothing is guaranteed. Console hardware, at least for me, seems pretty durable though. My Genesis is still running strong, as is my PS2, N64, and even my Game Boy Pocket. I'm pretty sure I could even get my Game Boy Printer up and working again. But this is why I like emulators. Hardware will fade away one day. Bits and bytes, especially widely disseminated ones, tend to persist indefinitely (until an apocalypse, or the internet is down). A lot of people throw hissy fits over accuracy, but I just want to recreate the overall experience of the game; that's enough to satisfy me. And no, silly scanline filters, don't help recreate the experience at all :p Maybe I was young, but I don't remember my TV ever looking like the scanline or TV Mode filters available on various emulators.
I guess your right. I just hope that if I buy a new GameCube and DS Lite in 20 years that they will run for years after opening the box. And maybe a GBA SP. The rest can be emulated. I just love the feel of putting a cartridge in the slot rather than ctrl-o.

How terrible were their TVs growing up that eye-bleeding crappy picture makes them feel nostalgic? Maybe they just needed glasses and didn't get them till late childhood. Whoever made those filters wasn't looking at a CRT when they made it. Friggin hipsters. So my Verizon account was suspended for non payment again. I am debating on paying it since I am going to be moving within the next month or so back out to the country where Fios isn't available. Since I'll be moving I need money for other things such as dishes, an air conditioner, fan, bedding etc.. so nothing left to pay my Fios bill with.
Fun fact: Right now I get a Verizon walled garden page when trying to access any non secure http website. That is the suspension page so you can restore service by paying online. I can access any https website such as the Dolphin forums, Facebook, Gmail etc.. but get the walled garden page when accessing regular http websites. I can also use Steam, play TF2 but can't use the web browser in Steam, it's just a port 80 redirect lel. |
