The PS3 fat has a main body that is all curves and smaller rectangular subsections. You can't calculate it the same as the others. I don't have a PS3 so, I couldn't calculate the volume even if I had the patience too. The only way to do it right would be to divide it all up, calculate the volume of all those pieces, then add them together. That would suck. I was hoping google would come to the rescue, but not this time (hard drives = "physical volumes" ugh). I addressed this:
NaturalViolence Wrote:Of course this assumes a perfect rectangle on all sides since we don't know the angle of the curvature. However from eyeballing it I can immediately tell the curvature is too shallow to make the total volume lower. And besides we always calculate it the precalculus way because "bigger" is based on how much space it takes up rather than actual volume. I stand by my statement that the ps3 fat is objectively "bigger" than either the xbox original or xbox one.

The curvature is only a minor consideration. The main issue is that the curved piece is propped up by a smaller rectangular piece.
http://www.gear-junkies.net/ebay/images12/PS3-SKUNK1 http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co...e-Back.jpg The rectangular piece isn't as wide or as deep as the curved piece. Plus there is a chunk taken out for the slot loader. The PS3 was designed for style, not compact-ness. Simply taking the largest dimensions and adding them up leaves lots of empty space. Based on that I would say then that the volumes are similar. However it still takes up more space since the amount of space is based on the widest, tallest, and deepest segments even if other segments are smaller.
Now back to E3.

Just stick a PS3 in a plastic bag and drop it into a brim-full bucket. The volume of water displaced equals the volume of the PS3. The ancient Greeks could do this, and yet we have an argument about the best way to do it without coming up with a reliable answer?
Anyway, my current batch of exams is over, so it's new CPU and motherboard time. As is sensible, I'm willing to pay for a good motherboard, but don't want to pay for anything I won't benefit from (e.g. watercooled chipsets etc.). So, does anyone know of a good Z87 board?

Also, CPU cooler wise, is the recommendation still Hyper 212 Evo, or is there something better/the same but cheaper? The 212 is £25, and this links to Scan Computers list of compatible CPU coolers, just in case anyone who knows anything is willing to check for bargains.
Thermal paste of choice is still Arctic Thermal MX4? Also, if I'm offered a retail 4670K for £190, and an OEM version for £185, I'm fine with the OEM one, as I don't need a pretty box (or whatever the difference is)? Also, list of potential motherboards, in case someone's willing to work out the differences, and cross-reference user reviews to find ones to avoid. Also, @ED2: the whole point of the bag is that it's sealed and waterproof to stop water getting inside and ruining the PS3 and most importantly, the results.
