It's not even worth watching the streaming video; I just wait until one day is over and then glance to see if there are any worthy up-and-coming attractions. I like seeing it from the source directly. It's not as exciting to simply hear about, for example Monolith's new project compared to actually seeing it at the same time. I can't even explain to you how psyched I was when I not just heard, but saw it at the same time. It's a great feeling. 04-28-2013, 04:41 AM

Just tell me a release date, show me some pictures, and then I'll wait. I've been doing just that for Tales of Xillia for more than 2 years now (just reserved at GameStop last weekend). These days, I don't watch videos or read more than a passing article about a game. By now, I know what I like; it's enough for me to know a game's coming out eventually. If anything, by preventing myself from gaining too much of an impression about a game (screenshots, videos, GameFAQs forums full of spoilers) other than how worthwhile it will be to me (brief glance at Metacritic, get the gist of a review or two) I think that adds the right amount of suspense, but that's just me. I only get hyped for games from publishers I trust. So far no one has really let me down completely. I think one of the reasons for that is actually because I know what's going to be in the game before purchase. Not like spoilers but gameplay and functionality. 04-28-2013, 08:04 AM

Just like I've never had a bad experience with drugs or alcohol, since I avoid them altogether. I'm all for anticipation, but getting giddy about a game that will be available in a year (or never :p) just doesn't suit me. For me, I see a game I like, I say "Wow, it's gonna be a blast when that comes out," and then I wait for it to come out. Getting excited about the game is fine to a certain extent, but I like to reserve most of my excitement for, you know, the game itself. Can't comment on hype, but there have been quite a few publishers/developers that have let me down in a big way: Infinite Undiscovery (tri-ace, see next, largely suffers same problems), Star Ocean 4 (tri-ace again, story sucked, confusing/cheap battles, lame characters), Mega Man Legends 3 (Capcom, never came out...), Super Paper Mario (Nintendo, don't mess with the original PM formula, please...), Paper Mario: Sticker Star (Nintendo again, though this one isn't really a game, I doubt it counts...), FFXIII (Square Enix, way too linear, too much "meh", overrated). |
