In my opinion, there's no situation where a taser, tranquilliser dart, or crossbow will fail to protect you when you're on the right side of the law (ie not trying to go on a killing rampage or rob a bank). I understand that guns can be useful for applications such as hunting, but you shouldn't need an automatic (or even semi-automatic) weapon, as you should be able to hit the target first time, before you startle it and give it time to run.
Countries with near total bans on firearms have the lowest number of shootings per capita
Countries with near total gun control have the lowest number of stabbings per capita (showing that people don't just go for the next available weapon)
Countries with minimal armed policemen have the lowest number of on-duty police deaths per officer
Countries with near total gun control have the lowest number of bank robberies per capita.
Do you have any other 'facts' and hypothetical situations you want me to prove wrong/survivable?
Anyway, if you eliminate guns, you free up society to work on important things. Things like swordfighting, and how to kill a man with a single punch.
