hey guys. around pg 461 there was a conversation about how bad the new sonic games are. I guess I would be one of the younger generation members. To be honest, I never had anything against Sonic 2006, and I don't understand why people hated it so much. I actually never liked the sonic generations, or the really old sonic games like sonic anniversary edition for the GBA. I actually liked unleashed and Colors quite a bit, although I agree that there could be things changed to make them better. I think we can all agree though that Shadow the Hedgehog was a terrible game though. Tried it on a GameCube and never played it again. Why exactly was Sonic 2006 hated so bad (barring cut scenes)?

Where do I start? This game did literally nothing right. The gameplay mechanics, level design, enemies, and bosses were uninteresting. The plot, characters, and cutscenes were god awful and constantly being shoved down your throat. It's buggy, feels unfinished, the movement and controls are wonky. On top of that it didn't feel like a sonic game. The "realistic" theme does not fit with talking animals based on cartoon characters. As far as gameplay goes it feels like the developers had no idea what they were doing and decided to just try everything that they could think of. I've probably left some stuff out and could elaborate more on these points but I don't want this to become a WoT. I suppose the graphics and soundtrack were ok......that's about it. The game is a classic example of a rushed project, it lacks any sort of polish. Since this is not just my opinion but the general consensus of nearly every user and critic review out there I must ask why you thought this game was good.
Also for the record I am a" younger generation member" too. I grew up with the SNES not the genesis and as such I didn't play the original sonic games until 2005+ on emulators (well after SA and SA2). So I know it's not just a case of nostalgia. The original sonic titles are objectively good games.

Well, as I said before I do not like the cut scenes either and they did feel very rushed. I am not a game critic so I do not look at every angle for a good game. I found that the controls were perfectly fine, and I actually preferred the controls in Sonic 2006 compared to say Sonic Unleashed or Sonic Colors, especially the a button for seeking spin dash. The original Sonic titles I found were solid CRITIC wise, but were rather stale and repetitive, which prevented them from being fun to me. This is probably hypocrisy considering how you say that enemies and bosses are repetitive ad stale in Sonic 2006, but I always found that combat and platforming in 2006 was much more satisfying. As for the music and graphics, I do not care all the time about graphics so much as gameplay, but I have found that there is a limit to how low graphical and musical quality in a game can get before it becomes uninteresting to me. I am not impressed with the graphics or the music in the Original Sonic games, and I would consider them repetitive, annoying, and distracting from the game itself. Now Sonic 2006 is much better quality music and graphics wise. If you gave me a 740p or 1080p Sonic 2006, I could care less. But if the difference is 8-16 bit to a modern 740p display, I would choose the modern one everytime. The actual game feels rather rushed, I can agree with this. However, I feel that this game couldn't have gotten much better if the devs had spent more time on what really matters to me: gameplay and difficulty. I personally like really difficult levels, especially if the game catches you off guard with a really hard level in the midst of a bunch of easy ones. This was probably not intentional, but it was a major factor for me that made me enjoy this game even more. The levels I am referring to are the Crisis City levels and the Kingdom Valley Levels. I have found that with one touch of a button at the wrong time can seriously damage your rating at the end of the level. These two levels kept me stuck for weeks trying to get an S ranking, something I try to do for every level. I do not really know what people are talking about when it comes to glitches, as I have never encountered any after playing for a month or two, and the loading times I have never cared about, as any of my computer games for PC have far longer loading times with even worse graphics worlds and music. If you don't agree with any of this or want to debate, go ahead and reply. I do not care about criticism for this game, as I find it unique. Anyone who can master this game can aster most games, even through all of its issues. In short, yes it is unpolished, but just the fact that it is unpolished makes it all the more fun to go through and find everything in it that looks strange or interesting. If it was polished, the majority of the levels would be seriously altered to become more easy for beginners, with glitches and touchy controls interfering with people's ability to whip through levels in a mere 2 minutes. Sonic 2006 was one of the few games that made me stop and appreciate the environment and actually think before attacking an enemy, so much that it could have doubled for an RPG for me. OK, everyone probably thinks I'm a lunatic right now for saying all this, so fire away.
