The same thing happens on this forum with regards to post count being treated as a measure of knowledge/experience, that's why I ended up with a developer label.

To be fair, a lot of us hadn't heard of you by name, and then you showed up and started saying things that didn't match our intuition. Most of the time that happens it's because it's a backseat programmer that knows nothing about anything, so everyone defaults to being dismissive. Once you have some kind of distinguishing features, it's pretty easy to see that you're someone likely to know more about Dolphin/the Wii/GC, and so you're probably not one of the people making stuff up.

To be fair, dismissing someone simply because they state something that disagrees with your intuition makes you an asshole. What kind of world would we have if people refused to consider new ideas.

My fault. I had never seen you before so I thought you were a backseat programmer, and my few fragments of information led me to believe you were wrong. Until I did proper research that backed you up and saw that you were in fact correct. 10-02-2014, 03:45 AM

I disagree with tueidj on this one, for better or for worse "impression" has it's own importance, you can't expect someone who knows nothing about you treat you as if you are an authenticity, they will treat you like everybody else. It reminds me an article i saw today: http://www.boredpanda.com/prejudice-phot...oel-pares/
See this pic: http://www.boredpanda.com/blog/wp-conten...ares-7.jpg If the first thing that would come in mind seeing the left pic would be: Oh look here is a widowed mother of three kids, then i would agree with your logic. Likewise when someone saw a new guy in the forums that is not a known dolphin dev either posting stuff about how dolphin works to others, the first thing that would come to mind wouldn't be: Oh look here is an authenticity about how dolphin works. Things don't work like that in real life, most of the time for a good reason. 10-02-2014, 04:25 AM

But that is my point; treating "everybody else" as liars is practically bigotry. 10-02-2014, 04:27 AM
The WiiU emulation thread was the only instance of this happening where I was around. The only reason I dismissed you in that thread initially is because you refused to provide a source when asked. That for me sets off red flags. Had another user with 5,000 posts like admin89 said the same things I would have treated them the exact same way. I've done it plenty of times in the past. So it's not really a matter of post count. Being a developer however does give your posts less scrutiny than other users. Which is how it should be.

They are not all liars, there are also people who trully believe that they know stuff but in reality know nothing. Haven't you met any such person in your life? 10-02-2014, 07:04 AM
The article said that the photographer said his work, amongst other things, highlighted assumptions people made based on race, but in the two cases where race might come into it at all, he makes the subjects hold guns. Making it seem racist to make assumptions about people flailing guns around like it was nothing isn't the right way to do things.

Sure, but if you're actually talking about "faith" rather than "knowledge", those are very different things and not much good can come from debating them on the internet (or anywhere else...). On the other hand if you're saying I should be regarded the same as Wally123, that is a grievous insult and I may have to challenge you to fisticuffs. |
