I'm on satellite through Hughesnet, I'm sort of in the country and it sucks..
I get throttled to 100 - 200 kb/s everyday between 12 PM and 12 AM, latency is horrible, and browsing is so slow my great grandmother can run a 25 mile marathon before a single page loads or a 10 MB file completes..
I can only download/upload 425 MB in a rolling 24 hour period else I get throttled to sub dial up speeds and the net becomes virtually unusable even for light web browsing. If you continue using the connection in what is called "fap" (Fair access policy) mode, speeds deteriorate even more to the point nothing can be loaded or downloaded.
I get constant page timeouts and dns issues with this connection, Hughesnet are scam artists to say the very least. Just take a look at the difference from what they advertise on TV to what the service is actually like by users who use it.
On an unrelated note, I realized that my parents can sometimes be complete assholes..
