[Patch] Auto Frameskip - update page 3

Just let me get this straight, I can run Metroid Prime with 40 out of 50 FPS (most of the time). Having 1 frame skip gives fullspeed, but only 25 FPS. Will automatic frame skip make it so that it can run the max amount of frames that I can get, with fullspeed, which would perhaps be 35? If so, that's awesome. (I read what you wrote closely and it seems like what you said)

yes thats exactly the way it works
it reduces only that amount of rendered frames that is needed to achieve the wanted speed. - patch it - set framelimit to 50 and frameskip to 1. thats all. and its even more helpful on games running with 25fps usually that would drop to 12,5fps with full frameskip 1. with this i can finally play Z:TP with fun
does this patch save you frameskip setting to the ini or do you have to choose your frameskip setting everytime you open up the emu like the normal r3950 does cuz its kinda sucks cuz sometimes I forget to set my frameskip setting {sample frameskipping to 1 play exit restart emu frameskipping back to 0}and only notice it when I go ingame and have to restart the emu just to set to 1 again

no it does not.
also you dont have to restart dolphin, you can change the frameskip just as you want it in midgame. i did that requently(before this patch) and didnt had any crash. 08-09-2009, 09:23 PM
I think auto frameskip isn't ideal - my suggestion would be hotkey based configuration so that you could test it on the fly.

its only auto to the maximum you enter, a very huge difference.
a real auto-mode would use even high frameskip to achieve the wanted speed, but this here tries to keep the real fps as high as possible. Quote:so that you could test it on the fly you really want to mess with the frameskip while you play ? well you can add a hotkey really easy, but i dont see the point. with this patch here, frameskip is only applied when needed, so its off whenever its not needed and if its needed there is no point in turning it off by hotkey. so when do you want to use the hotkey ?
Oh I see - would someone mind patching this into the latest rev and uploading it for testing? Thanks
My idea of hotkey based frameskip was like shift+0-9 - something like that. so that if it needed to be increased or decreased you could do it manually. 08-09-2009, 10:17 PM
I would be happy too when someone uploads a compiled x64 3950+ build with this patch
