This small texture pack consist to bring the UI featured on the Chinese release of New Super Mario Bros. Wii on NVIDIA Shield to Dolphin Emulator, especially to those using it on their SHIELD due to the controller layout.
Let’s say that by using this pack on your SHIELD, you’re fooling NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios and Nintendo as they didn’t intend to bring those awesome releases in western countries. However, I didn’t rip those textures from their official release as I don’t have access to it. I just made them myself from start to finish without using any of their assets. So there’s no lincensing issues with this texture pack.
Everything has been done after gameplay footage, aiming for maximum resemblance.

What changed ?

- Warning screen (replaced by NVIDIA Lightspeed Studio logo)
- Main font (replaced by DFP Hai Bao, used on the Chinese release that I basically redone entirely to make it fit on our release)
- Controller icon for multiplayer (replaced by Shield controller)
- Button 2 is now A
- Button 1 is now X/B
- Button A is now Y
- Button + is now Start
- Button – is now Back
- Tilt animation tutorial (replaced by LT/RT indicator)
- Shake animation tutorail (replaced by LB/RB indicator)

The pack is fully compatible with the texture pack made by Bighead and has the same folder structure. Bellow are mirror downloads of his pack and I included a patch for it in my own pack.

[Image: o6IOkqS.png] [Image: jPOnJcy.png] [Image: NPnOHU6.png]

x8 is overkill (maybe for 4K)
x4 is more balanced
x2 for less powerful devices (that's what I use on the Shield)

DDS seems to have less performance impact than PNG, but is heavier in storage space.

The pack is made for the European version of the game and support all of its languages. It should also work for the American version.

As an extra, you can download config files I’ve made for this game on the Shield, including ini tweaks, controller profiles and so on.

⮬ Click this image to download ⮭

Simply copy and paste the folders into your « dolphin-emu » folder. To set the controllers, you have to replace your controller device id in SNMP01.ini (inside dolphin-emu/GameSettings/SNMP01.ini) with your own controller ids… To get them, just assign any input form within Dolphin Emulator, save your changes and open Dolphin.ini from « dolphin-emu/Config/Dolphin.ini ». You’ll find you controller id within the [Android] section.
If you’re using the American version of the game, rename SNMP01.ini to SMNE01.ini.

The perfect addition would be to be able to add Leanback shortcuts to New Super Mario Bros. Wii directly on the launcher. I didn’t succeed to do that natively (trough an APK working as a shortcut) yet. Another idea would be to make custom shortcuts in HALauncher, pack them together in a custom channel displayed in stock launcher but HALauncher custom shortcuts doesn’t load their banner on Leanback launcher for a mysterious reason. The only solution I got to work properly is to set up ARC Browser with a new system (Wii custom), using N64 (1.44 :1) box-art with custom box-art next to the ISO file (same name with « _box » at the end) in PNG. Then you can add those games to a collection, which you can add on Leanback launcher to look nice and sleek. You can get te custom banner I made here :

Here’s how it looks like in action :

Hope you'll enjoy this little texture pack, have fun!

Feel free to combine any elements from my pack with yours if you want. As with all my projects, anyone can do whatever they want with them.

Edit: It may help to have the PNG textures. I was too lazy to check, but I think I only released the packs in DDS. Tongue

@valcovo, I've seen your packs before, they're good! They don't serve the same purpose as this one, as mine intend to port UI/Fonts/Textures from the official Nintendo/NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios release of the NVIDIA Shield (in China exclusively) to Dolphin Emulator the best and as close to the original possible. Thanks!

@Bighead, whooops! I actually re-used one of your textures for the patch I made for your own pack (converted into PNG). Hope it's ok for you! By the way, what do you use for DDS conversion, when I create DDS file they tend to be way too heavy (kilobytes speaking)?

You don't have to use them if you don't want to, I just wanted to say you have my full permission to include any textures from my pack in yours. You can include my entire pack in yours if you wanted to. I linked the PNG files so you can have the best quality versions that do no conflict with your own textures, to avoid two file names that are the same (except one is PNG and one is DDS). Plus it would just make it easier on users in the long run to not have to install two different packs on top of each other. Just keep in mind that if you are going for a 100% "authentic" look, some of my textures do not match the originals. Totally your choice!

To convert to DDS I use my script below, the minimum required programs is ImageMagick. But if you want to create BC7 textures, that requires at least TexConv. And if you want the best quality DDS textures, optionally add in Compressonator. The script supports a bunch of other stuff, but that should be all you need for most features.

https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-custom-texture-tool-ps-v38-0

It may take a bit to set up and fully grasp, but it has lots of features that other programs don't have that make converting much easier in the long run. Plus if you have any questions or run into any issues, just post on my thread and I'd be happy to help.

As for DDS file sizes, it is normal if they are larger than PNG on disk as the size is based on resolution, mipmaps, and compression type. Using a simple formula, you can calculate how "big" a DDS file will be. If they are compressed with DXT1, DXT5, BC7, etc., they will be much smaller in RAM/VRAM than PNG, and that's what counts.

I try to explain this somewhat here: http://bhemuhelp.co.nf/other/ctt/DDS_Size_Calculations.txt

To get an idea of how "big" a PNG is in RAM/VRAM in comparison, use the "uncompressed" formula compared to the various compressed formats. But just for a quick example, a 2048x2048 PNG texture vs a BC7 texture.

PNG: 2048 * 2048 * 4 = 4 MB
DXT5/BC7: 2048 * 2048 = 1 MB  <-- this is also how big it will be on disk, +148 bytes for the header

While PNG may be smaller on disk, PNG and uncompressed DDS textures are 4x larger in VRAM than DDS DXT5 and BC7 textures.

I especially believe you since apparently the security for the shield releases is bulletproof!

@Bighead thanks for all your help! I'll mirror your pack (in PNG and DDS) here to make it easier for everyone and also put DDS files in the Downloads section. I didn't know how it worked for DDS files but I get it now, I was already using your tool to bulk resize my PNGs, now I'll use it for DDS too!
Thanks a million!

@MayImilae, thanks!

Haha if only it wasn't so bulletproof! For now we have pretty much 4 different versions of a very powerfull GC/Wii emulator running on Shield, customized to run each games... New Super Mario Bros. Wii (very easy to emulate), The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (kind of OK to emulate), Punch-Out (a little trickier) and Super Mario Galaxy (a little hard on hardware)... Plus the upcoming titles: Mario Kart Wii (not so easy to emulate, with online support on top of it), Metroid Prime & Donkey Kong Country Returns rumored... If their security wasn't bulletproof as you said... We basically would have really powerfull emulators to run a wide range of games! Wouldn't be as good as Dolphin compatibility speaking but having multiple Tegra X1 specialized emulators would be somewhat interesting!

@Magiike, I recreated them using a software named FlexiSIGN (a sort of Illustrator, that I find faster to work with) and Photoshop based upon gameplay screenshots. I'm actually working on Punch-Out too, and already done Twilight Princess but unfortunately the GC HUD cannot be twicked (buttons are placed differently, and have aspect-ratio distortion in 16:9 (which I fixed with some workaround), release is about to come up but I have some stuff to iron-out before release

But can you still please do what you can and release it for Twilight Princess?
