From what I remember of Super Mario Galaxy, there's several moments where you'll require to actively use wii-mote stuff (pointing and tilting and all that). Since I don't actually have a way to connect my wii controllers to my PC in any way, my plan was to set my mouse to be a wiimote input (an MMO mouse, so I can stuff 90% of the buttons and motion actions needed to that), and then set my 360 controller to the nunchuck (any shaking inputs I truly need could just be set to the d-pad). Then, I tried to set it all to one wiimote, and felt a bit silly for not checking if you were allowed to use two different inputs at all.

Is there any way of getting it to work? A trick in an .ini file that doesn't require cluttering up the interface for more stuff? I checked the SMG threads and nobody else mentioned control schemes for that game, so am I just overcomplicating things?

You can, right click the button of the action you want to change and on the new window that pops up select the input device for that action.
